I haven't played with a buzz since back in the early 70's, life got in the way, I worked a job with drug testing. Now I'm retired, live in a state with legal recreational marijuana and thinking, why not? I know back then when I got together with friends to jam we always partook of a little weed and a little drink of choice. At the time it seemed to enhance things, at least to us, maybe not those just listening. What's the consensus on this?

I've played gigs on booze, dope, amphetamines and even during the come-down off acid*.

Any of that stuff will certainly loosen you up, but whether or not I played any better (or worse), is debatable.

I've not done any of the above for at least 14 years.

*Not all at the same time, I might add.

Weed no, I'm a daily smoker. Heroin yes. Haven't touched it in almost 20 years though.

Speaking from experience. I never played live after smoking, but I wrote most of my tunes blasted out of my mind. I think it just frees your mind from outside distractions when writing. Stops me from thinking about the shitty day at work, the fight with the wife, etc and let's me just play and be creative. I think I actually came up with some parts that I may not have come up with had I not been stoned out if my mind. Lol

I hear the muse better when she is around. Outside of that, no.

It has been years, but yes. It didn't make my hands faster or my knowledge better, but it helped me cut loose. I would play things differently and break free from my typical habits. Solos did tend to be longer and more of a dance than a gunfight.

I tried a few times when playing live. I recall thinking "I've been playing this wonderful, beautiful song for 30-minutes.... this sounds amazing."

Only problem is that while it improved my experience, others complained that I was "not on my A-game." I rarely touch weed though, so its like a rookie high each time. Therefore, I chose not to. I leave it for fishing trips only.

Agreed with 70's weed. Now, that shvt is to potent for me. Tried it a couple of years ago and had to go sleep it off so I didn't fall down. They shouldn't call it weed any more. It's much more than the bags we blew through in the day ;)

I've never experienced anyone who played better when they were high....mainly those who just thought they did. It does enhance the listening to of music but from a player's POV I'd say no. I used to smoke it all the time when I played out...between every set. Getting "loosened up" is just a mentality thing. My view anyway.
