For those of you who haven't seen them,
digimart tested a bunch of R9s to see if weight affects tone.

The first test compares R9s of varying weights, plus a semi-hollowbody Les Paul.
    Same amp, same licks.

Test 2 features two R9s of identical weights.

Test 3 compares two R9s of identical weights, one VOS and the other heavily aged.

That guitar tone is so pathetic I couldn't listen long enough to tell anything. Sounds like a swarm of bees!!

The second one sounds brighter to me. Neither is better than the other, though. That tells me weight alone is not a good predictor of tone.

    Thanks for the link, @jktxs

And what would that have to do with me being a sponsor?? I can certainly have an opinion without it having to do with my business.

In which we learn that tonal differences arising from body density are minimal between mahogany samples.

This is not especially surprising given that the majority of forced vibration is in the neck, not via the bridge to the body.

I don't think anything tonal could ever be decided via a youtube video.

Youtube comparisons are, for the most part, pretty silly. It all depends on the tone you are looking for and how you set up the amp, etc.. for a particular guitar.

Usually when I switch guitars I have to adjust the amp settings somewhat to my taste because no guitar really sounds exactly the same IMO.

Still waaayyyy too many variables. Pickups, pots, caps, even though they may all be Gibson, they will still have a variance.

It's true. For a valid comparison, a single harness and pickup set would have to be transferred between all test guitars. Some standardised audio spectrum analysis is also necessary. Boring, I know, but the only way to get results that are actually informative.

Not a fan of the tones at all but it is YT & you can't really get a good idea from an mp3 file & we don't know how it was recorded.

I refer to those sorts of tones as "Blowflies in a Tin Can".

Crotch unless he was trying to pull off the Doctor thing I'd say he was wearing the mask because he had a Cold or people around him had a Cold. It might look weird but it is a great way to help prevent the spread of Virus / Bacteria. The Japanese are a pretty clean & tidy bunch when out in Public.

Re comparing we've done this a few times. Same Amp, Cab, Cable, Settings, just changed PU's in the same Guitar or Necks on the same Body. Interesting exercise, you can certainly hear some differences.

    :cheers2:

So in your opinion the Japanese have the same demeanor they had during WW2 and think all foreigners are dirty and disease ridden, master race type of demeanor?

That's nice to know considering they seem to love almost everything USA.
