Hey folks nice to be here!
    Let me introduce myself....
Do they need to have some confirmation of morality from pastoral office? I mean I'm the Beelzebub of the winding and I'm doing some not for mediocre allowed stuff with pickups, am I out or what?

    Hear for yourself, it's wicked

Oh dear... I've just found out that the Devil was playing with my guitar :wow:

    Well hello there!
Here's what seems to be the first review of the work of this Mouse :) - a good friend of mine - who's somewhat, actually, not somewhat - really lazy; therefore i'll give you some insight to what he does.

Being lazy - he has lots of time on hand - which i can't be happy enough about - since if he didn't i wouldn't now have what i find to be the best sounding 1958 VOS that i've heard.

    Here's the story:

A year ago i was lucky enough to get this beauty! It's a 1958 VOS from 2008, and came with stock Burstbuckers... Those pickups are nice, no doubt, but for something that is said to be the closest possible PAF recreation, they just didn't work. Especially since neck pickup was stronger than the bridge (8.4k neck and 7.8k bridge), too boomy and closed, somewhat muffled...
Having seen Leslie's (his original nickname) work, i decided to pay him a visit and this happened:

After removing the covers and exposing the winding we found out that Gibson's idea of pickups that WERE NOT waxed is perhaps somewhat strange? :hmm:

Took him a few hours to get it done, but once it was - i was left really speechless!
The guitar got the third dimension to its tone - it's more open, "airy", slightly more compressed, and a tad brighter, but you won't find those glassy sharp trebles here - oh no! Just sweet, delicate highs with a nice mid bark - especially from the bridge pickup that now measures 8.3k while neck is at 7.8k - both pickups clear up way better with the volume knob, retaining their clarity...
It's a perfect machine now for Cream, Led Zep, Fleetwood Mac, Thin Lizzy and all the other classic rock stuff made with Les Pauls.

Here's a soundclip of him testing the guitar before and after the rewinding the pickups - guitar plugged directly into 18w Marshall clone (handbuilt by him as well) - recorded with Zoom H2 recorder, with all the settings being the same before and after - like the recorder's position, volume and tone knob on the amp.
    judge for yourselves!

Here are some other examples of what happens when Leslie has too much time on hand :) :thumb:

    Wow, some very nice work!

I'm gradually starting to develop a fetish for zebra pups; that pic upthread didn't help. :laugh2:

In a fanatic phases (after very long lazyness) I might feel ready to make some pickups testing guitars for myself, if the wood and moon is right.
