Am I the only one that can't see the initial pics? Wanted to see the neck transition / binding especially.

Wow, that request is as custom as I've ever heard. Cant wait to see the progress and appreciate you effort in sharing.

Out of interest will it be shiny as new Cobra Burst Custom or slightly aged?

It's been awhile since I've posted an update on this guitar and it looks COMPLETELY different now. 1981 LPC was right in that the finish wouldn't look right, so now it has been turned into a cardinal red finish.

For whatever reason, this turned out to to be a difficult top to work with. I'd say I got it as close as possible to the cobra burst, but it looked muddy. This was probably because it isn't a flame top. Coincidentally, I happen to stumble upon a cobra burst at GC and saw that I got the finish just about right. I didn't even like the authentic Gibson finsish! It looked muddy too!

I'll get the recent pics up soon since this is close to completion.

I set some of the hardware on just to get a better feel. I didn't get to the final clear coats.

    Cardinal red sounds lovely.

Does anyone know why the other finish is called "Cobra Burst"? It must refer to something...

I think it's because the color sort of looks like cobra skin? At least last time I was at the zoo, the cobras looked that color. I could be totally wrong.

Flame will definitely change the look. Here is the TradProII that I refinished using StewMac stain. 3 50% stains and sandbacks Then 100% to get the teardrop in. The teardrop took 6 stain sessions. The a final blend with 25% mix. I can't seem to get a better pic, so here it in the refinish process.

This is what I was going for, the blue tint is the sun reflection off the neighbors house

Pics are coming today/tonight. Finishing up a handful of guitars and trying to get them out the door (including this one).

It's coming. I have a boatload of pictures on my camera and I'm trying to get all the threads updated. The guitar is pretty much finished and all that's left is the wiring. I'll have everything updated by the end of the weekend.

Hopefully this isn't the start of a trend...
