Hello there, I haven't posted for a while but I felt that some might be interested in seeing this. A friend recently commissioned me to paint a replica of Eric Claptons Cream era SG. He had a husk of a 1974 SG Standard and decided to have it finished in this way. Here are some shots of the work in progress and the almost finished guitar. I hope you like it.

Hi Chasenblues, yes - I'm Frazettafan on LPF. Thanks for posting the larger images. I checked the links and they do work for me. I'll look into it further. Cheers, Mike.

Thanks very much fellas, that's good to hear as I really wasn't sure how to go about it in the first place. I guess it's a shame that it's not quite the correct spec SG after all that work and that made me wonder if it really would look right. I'll post more shots when it's ready to be played, I hope it's gonna sound good!

Beautiful reproduction job. I'm probably not alone among SG nuts though wishing you'd used a body with the early '60s deep bevels.

Glad to hear it, Kris - but weren't you using an old SG Special for a long time back there?

Thanks for the compliment, SM. I'm with you on that too and I mentioned it in my first post in this thread. But that was the guitar my friend had to hand at the time and he wasn't too bothered about that aspect. He's very much a player and liked that guitars particular construction details, it has a great neck on it, so for him that level of authenticity wasn't an issue. Those little differences kind of added to the challenge of it to me as I had to adapt the design to fit the '74 SG spec. It doesn't bother me so much now it's done, even though it took a lot of time and effort but I guess it would have been nice to get it really perfect by putting it on to a '64 spec guitar -even with the vibrola fitting a 'la Clapton. The next one I do will be on the 1963-64 model SG Standard, that's something in want to get into very soon. Now that I've got the whole design template worked out for front, back and sides it should be a little easier to do - just that took a week to work out! Thanks again for looking and for your comment!
