My sister just sent me pics of a guitar someone donated to her church to be sold for their building fund. The guitar was donated a year ago and was put in a back room and forgotten about. They found it and sent me pics to get a value.......... 1969 Martin D28 that looks almost new from the pics. Almost looks too good to be real. I made a ridiculously low offer on it but did give them the true value. Just told em my momey was today not months down the road.

As long as you informed them of it's legit value, then it's their informed decision what they'd sell it for then.

I imagine that if I ever ran into someone.... not that it would happen....who were ignorantly selling something that was very valuable for cheap, I couldn't in good conscience do it. I'd tell them how much they really could get, then it's up to them.

    You and meatball! :hmm:

Every church has a building fund to help offset the cost of maintaining the building that they are IN!

Do any of you own a house?

Roofs need fixing, plumbing needs redoing, painting, heating costs, appliances, windows etc.

C'mon! That was really crass! IMHO

Most churches are internally funded with no outside help.

They have to rely on donations like this because of the return value they offer, as opposed to purchasing something for resale. The margins are much smaller, and they may not have the manpower to run a sales drive.

When you are rich in spirit you give ,don't take. They should give it to you cheap. Too many fakers/takers out here.

The building fund comment was a joke..... derived from an old steve Harvey routine. The guitar is in amazing shape for its age if the pics are accurate. They were told it is a $10,000.00 guitar by someone else. I am not an appraiser. I have no idea but I don't see that

Yeah or even a bit more.. Martin company refused to give me any info. Would not even verify year or model because of so many fakes. I have seen ASKING prices from 4500 to 8500

    I think that's high.

I think your only win here is to walk away as quickly as you can.
If someone has the idea it's a 10K piece, that queers the whole deal in my opinion. If you buy it for a song, somebody is going to hold a grudge and churches can hold a grudge for a long time!

I'd get out of Dodge and not look back.

I already ran the number. It is a 69 D28...... I dont go to the church so I don't care if they hold a grudge lol...yeah if they call me and accept what I offered i will go get it.... not gonna persue it any further. As I said my offer was ridiculously low. I dont blame him for not taking it but if he is holding out for ten grand he would be money ahead to accept my offer.

I admire whoever was willing to donate such a fine instrument especially if they knew what they had at the time.

And I respect you for being honest about the true value of the instrument. If you get it for the price you offered then good for you...karma is reserved for hindus and buddhists, not baptists.

Some of the value depends on how nice the Brazilian rosewood is. :hmm:
