My bestie has a deliciously beat '56 Special TV that needs new frets. Original pencil frets are damned near to the rosewood, nibs barely visible. He's been warned that re-fretting will screw the resale but it's unplayable. Wants larger frets. We're both in the Far West burbs, and real pros out this way?

I can no longer recommend the great Ed Reynolds, as he has long since decamped for Austin (but Chi is full of great techs - try Chicago Music Exchange for starters); just wanted to say that a refret will not screw resale any more than new tires will hurt a car's resale - though going with different-sized frets may or may not, depending on the buyer's preference.

iirc, he builds a delicious 4.5lb (pre-hardware) custom pine Telecaster
pretty sure his refret skills are on par

I got a 56 Custom from Rock n Roll Vintage that they refretted, I’d trust them.
