Analog delay with 1100ms on the way!

Ive been itching to try Chase Bliss gear, sold my timefactor as the Mesa didnt get along so i grabbed a Chase Bliss Red Knob Tonal Recall, an analog delay with 1100ms thanks to 4 MN3005 bucket-brigade delay chips! bringing modern amenities such as tap tempo, optional bypass with trails, expression control over any parameter, and the ability to save presets.

Also ordered A Chase Bliss Midibox so i can use the ES8 to get the most out of her and future Chase pedals, ill eventually grab a Gravatis (tremolo) and Wombtone (phaser) too.

Ill prob be in here probing you Chase pedal users how to get the most out of these boxes... there is alot to them and so compact... itchy to get the pedal and hook her up, should be here in Oz in a few weeks but im eager to hear your experiences and learn what i can so i have a grasp before it arrives...

Ive been following his progress and life on bookface for years... top guy and genious at pedal work, im very lucky to have the opportunity to own my own Chase pedal.

Chase Bliss is certainly one of the more promising and interesting new builders to emerge in the last couple of years. But, yeah, not many folks in MLP seem to own any of Joel's products. TGP for example has been going craze about him and his pedals since he started.

Good to see that there is some interest in here as well. Congrats, Mook!

Cheers hector, as an anolog nut im so glad Joel is doing what he is doing, can hardly wait, might take me a bit to wrap my head around the unit but ill keep you all posted on my honeymoon when she arrives.

Been a while since i posted at MLpF so i better make a bit of an effort, repay some of the assistance ive gotten over the years here. I have no ties to the company and not working in the industry anymore so you all know ill be honest and give my unbiast oppinion, as i always have :)

Making midi work with a Chase midibox and your other pedals is not as easy as it seems, you can only hook one other non chase pedal to the chase midibox unless you buy a 2nd midi splitter

This is how i pictured it

But this is how it can only work

Ok to be fair Joel just apologised for a misscommunication error and due to the situation offered to pay for a 2nd midi splitting unit to run from the Chase Bliss Midi into a2nd midi splitter and this would allow me to connect my other pedals to midi as well. Just so anyone is wondering how to make their system work using both Chase Bliss Pedals and their other pedals.

Im here to inform and help so even though im unhappy with the way this was handled this is how you would have to go to use Chase Bliss units and other companies pedals to send and recieve midi messaging...

Thanks for reading and i hope this will be of assistance to some

Using this Banana Split Midi splitting unit that has 6 5pin midi sockets and one TRS midi socket to connect the chase bliss delay... hopefully i can control everything with one unit, and worst case scenario i will need to use both midi splitting units ( The chase midibox and the Banana Split Unit) if i have any trouble getting the Banana Split unit to work with Chase Bliss Pedals.

I am really keen to try out the Chase Delay so Ill be testing her out with the Banana Split unit and will let you guys know how i go.

So im pretty happy Joel went out of his way so edited my bitch session and am sticking to the how to and tonal review side.

I received the pedal today, ill test her tomorrow as its late here in Oz, little pedal porn for you... and thats exactly how i felt about it when i opened the box, even the box is sexy :naughty:

Feels solid and all switches and pots are tight/well made, no rattles what so ever

I like pedals that can be adjusted in so many ways, but am never, ever going to be the kind of player that readjusts an effect from one song to the next. So, to tell you the truth, I would rather identify a more reasonably priced pedal that is already in the tonal ballpark I want, with enough adjustability to nail the tone I want, than spend a real load of $$$ for adjustability that I will use rarely. I had the same issue with the Fuzz Factory, which was fun if you want to play with knobs endlessly, in real time, but unreliable and inconsistent as a "set and forget" unit. I

Beauty of midi, i can set a sound in the RKM and save it to the midi switcher, as many times as i want and with as many settings as i want so its like having multiple delays that are all set exactly how i need and can be called upon with ease... plus it cant be bumped and changed. Time i tried this thing out i guess... i think im scared i wont like it, and spent alot of coin on it, but if it works out well im going to be very happy. Here i go!

Sshhh! What are you thinking?! Keep it quiet before Bonamassa and his friends hear you! Midi?! Delay?! They don't like that kind of talk!

Just kidding! Nice pedal, I'd like one, one day!

Well... its certainly a keeper this far, no modulation or bright repeats tried just the delay and it is veeery musical, lots of control over the warmth speed mix and repeats, remembering why i loved delay, bbd chips are just ace, and all that delay time :dude:

More to come, its too early to make judgement

Oh no... issue one and two.

When you turn the tone knob up past twelve Oclock the repeats start to get a swishing noise thats quite bad past 2 Oclock... unusably bad and Joel says this is the nature of analog delay... well sure but i though a 600 dollar one would have solved this and whats the point of having the option for bright repeats if its noisy as hell.

Then if you turn up the mix there is alot of background noise... again im told this is the nature of analog delay with long delay time...

If i wanted a dark delay with short delay times id have spent a lot less and grabbed a carbon copy or 3.

Home she goes, that was quick

You should look at the Pigtronix Echolution - fully analog (BBD) with digital brain. I had one a while back, very warm sounding delay. Plus full MIDI integration, editor app but also full control of every parameter on the front of the unit. It was my fave delay for a while

Thanks broko, i will give it a try next time im
in canberra. I just got a message from joel at Chase Bliss saying it seems i were not aware the RKM is an analog delay... i nearly fell off my chair lol

This has been a pretty bad experience all round actually, should have left my first bad review up with the BS about midi control and needing the midibox... and they dont want us to use other pedals... set up to only work with chase bliss pedals ao they dont get left in the shadows... :/ it looks the part but its like its still in beta testing IMHO

    Time to move on
