Lol. Barely took .01 off. It's still measureing way above 1". But I think if I keep it , it's got to come down somemore. Its Soooooo much more playable already. Still huge. I think im enjoying the modding more then playing.:jam:

Before this guitar, the biggest neck I ever played was a 90s Jeff Beck strat. This was just insane. You guys are hard core.

I've modded just about every Fender /bolt on I've owned. I've NEVER did anything to a LP or a set neck besides change pickups/electronics. I would Never devalue a real Gibson like that......not because I think they are sacred or anything , but because I dont have that kind of money. I barely took 1/16th-1/8th off its still a 1" + neck. Bigger then both my R8 and R9. But I can make chords now way easier. Before I was pushing off those little pads directly under your fingers, now my hand gets around it way better. All I did is soften the shoulders some. Big difference from my perspective. Going to order some Nitro in a can for the back eventually but I wont get to that for a while. I really liked the look of a black stinger on the back of the headstock as well. I think I can pull this all off in my garage if I take my time. This might become my favorite single cut because it will have some of ME in it. :cheers2:

Well after a few weeks I've come to a crossroads. Either pass it along as is, or keep it and make it mine.

I've come to the conclusion... I'm throwing everything but the kitchen sink at it. Going to bring the neck down to just under 1.0" My R8 has the neck profile and I'm going to try and match it. Ordered Titanium stop bar and saddles, flamed maple pick up rings , nitro in a can for the neck and back. And I'm going to get that neck pickup modified PG style out of phase.

Most of all I'm going to do it all myself. In the end I hope to have a guitar Gary Moore would own...........:bowdown

    True Guitar Porn......Shes Naked!

I've been taking this real slow. Shaving a bit off and then living with it for a couple days. I thought I had it , It still measures .98- 1.02
    [IMG]

Even started the fine sanding.......but I need to take just a bit more off around the 12th fret to make this a true player. I could live with it , I do on both my Historics, but this one I have the opportunity to make it perfect. Slight V from the nut to the 7th fret and then a rounded fatter profile. Think I have to go down to .96 to 1.0

I'm glad your turning into a keeper! Hope everything turns out great. I agree, I would put a stinger on the back. Good luck with it!

While I always modify my own guitars to personal taste, they are mostly sub $1,000 and certainly not one of six! And as I embark on designing and building my own guitars, I understand the attachment of the builder even after selling.

That said, too big of a neck can be a real bitch, and that does look like a honker! I have a Strat copy that's very wide and has big shoulders, so I understand. I think knocking down the shoulders alone can make a huge difference.

I'm going to give it a try! How hard can it be? I'm def. going with a bit of a relic look on the back to mask my less then superior finish skills. Going to be masking tape and nitro in a can. I've had really good results on some of the Tele Pauls I've built , this is my first Mahogany single cut/ set neck I've ever modded past electronics.

I think I got this neck right where I want it to be. Just like you said I kept running my hands up and down it and it was just screaming for lower shoulders. This thing was HUGE. 1.25 I believe. The biggest problem I was having is the pads at the base of the fingers wasn't sitting right so it was forcing my fingers to do everything. I've spent a good month just watching TV and sanding it little by little. Mahogany is way easier to shape then Maple! Its a bit of a Large V on the bottom (high E) and the Top is more rounded for my Thumb. I've never had the Nuts to do this to a Historic, but I'm really happy so far with the results on this. I only hope I can get it to play and sound as good as it currently feels!

I'm going all out on it. Got the Maple Humbucker rings (they fit perfectly and is a testament to Caretakers finishing abilities) beautiful dish sir!:dude:

And I got a great deal on a Titanium Stop tail piece and saddles:

My tech refinned mine with cans. You saw the pic. The finish came out nicer than most Gibson's I've owned. Good luck and have fun!

I wish there were more options for non historic LPs with huge fat necks. Have been gassig for a special with a fat neck. Wish I had built a PGK LP when their kits were actually accurate copies.

Taking my time refinishing the back . Going for a nice worn in look. The top is perfect IMO. Has a few real life nicks and wear and tear but its beautiful.

I did a stinger to hide the plugs and it came out pretty cool.

I keep adding a few layers to the once raw neck and back of Nitro. then I steel wool and sand it . Its smooth as a babys ass but it needs a bit more work to make it look realistic.

All in all I'm pretty stoked with the progress so far. My First LP "project". Kinda treating it like a Glorified tele. :):yesway:

I named the guitar "Soulshine". I would have left it Caretaker , but the headstock was bare when I got it. I had it say KARMA in the Gibson lettering. (I would never clone 100%)

The pick up rings and Toggle plate are stained, nitroed and ready to go:

    Ok............
I had put this guitar on the back burner for a bit.i wanted to give the nitro on the back time to cure before Sanding and I had a problem with the pickups I ordered. They were sent back and I finally got a credit.

The Kirk Hammett Greenie /Moore Les Paul thread got me Pysched to finish it. i ordered a set of Seymour Duncan CS Greenies and am hopefully going to finish the guitar this weekend if they arrive.:applause:
