    Hi brothers..

I will be 40 next Tuesday... I play for more than 20 years but I NEVER gigged except once. That was in "Guitar Day" at university 18 years ago !

I have never had the commitment to join a band and gig. I have little kids now with too much family commitments so I have no time to play or practice... but... I am expecting that I would have this luxury of time a couple of years later when the little kids grow a little more...

Would that make sense to start looking for band mates and think of gigging when I am 43 or something?

No one wants to see an old man pouncing around on a stage with a guitar...

I joined a band when we had kids. It did everyone good to get me out of the house once a week. She has time away from the kids too so all is good.

40 years wasted when you could have been immersed in adolescent band drama and being "teacher" at adult day care (nightclubs)? Man, you have really wasted your life thus far. Kids??? My God, when are they ever fun?

Dude, this hasn't been an issue for years. "Grown-ups" are near extinct and this is one of the few benefits of that. Enjoy!

Play out. Act like a horny teenager on stage. Jump around like it won't hurt tomorrow. Shake your junk at the pretty women (make sure the wife gets the first and last shake). Play your ass off. If you do this today, tomorrow, or next week, give it all you got. Who gives a crap if you are 13, 23, 33, 43 or 93? If it makes you smile, then its right as rain.

Yes, I took off for 15 years 1993-2008- I was 42 -prime for a comeback- you will see- plug in and abuse ears;simple as peach pie. I'm 52, my "younger" band- bassist=48,drummer =42 are "resting" for a month. I chew them up. I blow 20 somethings off the stage whenever I play. The rules have changed ; in 1993 I was "old" at 27- now? The LOVES wash-ups.

Do it. Make sure its part of a family plan too. Having the missus support your hobby will be a huge influence on band practice and late nights at a club.

As far as getting a band together, that can be the hard part. It may take a while for 3 - 4 guys to really gel. The easiest way is to join in an already existing band that knows plenty of songs that you already like.

Have fun and be flexible. Support your singer. Like a family, if the wife or singer aren't happy, nobody's happy.

I'm 51 , and I've been trying to find band members for the last year or so . . .

the young ones have Strange Aspirations
    " What should our " look " be ? " , and " What should the band logo look like ? " . No

the older ones want to know
" Can I bring my wife to band practice ? " , or " Sunday mornings and Tuesday nights are good for me " . No

I'm working on my own project right now . I need full control . I'm having a couple people record some tracks for me __ while I do the rest . it may or may not evolve into an actual band , but I feel good that I'm working on something

    They're fast. My sister's will do 60 !
You need more sex, and less time to think about such silly ideas.

Pull your shorts up to your chest. Get your socks and sandals on and go bitch about gas prices to the pimply kid at the gas station. That's what older, responsible adults do.
