I think it might be a little more complicated here. Depends on who is filing a lawsuit. If a buyer tries to recoup his money because he thinks he's been defrauded, it's civil right, burden of proof lies on the buyer.

If the prosecutor investigates and sues a perpetrator, it's criminal law and they will have to pay for the experts and so on. Will take years and years

So who are some good reputable vintage dealers? Will be looking for a 50's Strat sometime in the future. I like knowing who to stay away from, but also who to go to.

If you use forums to facilitate your process of elimination then I wonder if anyone would be left standing, LOL.

That's the one. My mistake on the price, but still WAY too high.

I had the chance to buy a full-stock, slightly player-grade one for $4,500 just a couple of years ago.

Vet the guitar first and foremost, the seller comes a close second.

The '58 has been sold to a new owner a little over 6 months ago, I won't post any pictures of that guitar but it's not in question it's a '58 Goldtop and not a Burst...:)

Thanks for the reply- so did you get a refund from GP when you discovered it wasn’t in fact a Burst, and was it then sold on by them with an amended description, or did you sell it yourself?

The '58 was appraised as a '58 refinished Goldtop the day I tried to sell it by one of the most well respected experts there is, Eric Ernest. I also found out about the amp that day. This is more about Detlef's business schemes than that particular guitar but I hope it makes sense now.

Ouch! That’s a painful spot to be in! I assume the buyer was taken aback as you? Can I ask what the ensuing conversation with your previously good friend Detlef was like? Did he have any explanation or offer any resolution?

He got very aggressive when talked to about this, also he stayed with the point it is a '58 Burst. I did not have to resolute anything about the '58 Burst tho since the new owner was happy to take it off me for the price I offered it, especially since I got original M69 rings for it.

Hmm- so you lost at least $10k on the deal? You are a very magnanimous guy I think, and I know others who buy in this price range who would have leveraged a world of hurt upon Detlef.
If it is your desire to cause him as much negative publicity then I would post on the LPF/TGP with greater detail and EE’s appraisal comments, but it was providential your buyer was happy with your price despite the negative findings, and you happy to accept, and it seems Detlef gets away completely unscathed..

They have crazy prices in this shop and here was some member who bought a black 74 Custom from them and then realized it was refinished (at least the neck). The thread still should be in Norlin section. So they seem to have interesting selling practices. :hmm:

yeah, that's exactly how it sounded like. And the story about your way here sounds legit too

And it's also good to see that you knew exactly who the "always those who shout the loudest" were and that you also know that they never dealt with the store in question or not even have been there. And all without being a frequent visitor, let alone member here and coincidentally found this place by a google search.
