But this is not....
Mike Campbell's '55 Custom
Agreed. Customs and Goldtops are where it's at.
Very, very cool!! Mine's a '56!
It didn't have have a whoppin neck on it ,like one might expect. Was not heavy
He didn't play it any of the 3 times I saw them on this tour .He also had a '72 reissue with a Bigsby ......that he didn't play either
Those were the most exciting guitars in the bunch,to me
Agreed. If I had a 50s "burst" guitar, I would have painted it black. I'd probably regret it at resale time, though.
On a proper Les Paul, the only wood you see is the fretboard.
What I find is that Custom necks are unlike Standard necks. They are more uniformly like what the '59 standard necks that people like are, regardless of year. I'm not sure that I've played a chunky Custom yet. I have played a thin '60 though.
They don't come much better looking than that.
The t-shirt is proof of your superior taste.
To each his own, I guess. I love wood grain myself, but I admit a black LP is impressive too.
Had a gold top once upon a time, and the finish never did much for me. Loved the guitar though, despite the weight.
I like seeing grain myself, but a BB is a close second for me.
Mmm, I dunno... black is nice, but sorta like a Playboy where all the models are wearing Snuggies.
Actually, goldtops are boring, bursts and beautiful, and black is.....well,......black. That Lester is classy, but nothing boring about a burst at all in my books.
Nice - I'll take one in "backwards"!
My heavily customized 1973 LP Custom Black Beauty (Tuxedo Black). Les actually played this guitar after it was customized. He said to me, "Good work, by Scott Gordon posted Nov 9, 2014 at 5:43 PM
My '73 heavily modded Black Beauty.
..... no one said "P90's are where it's at ......."
P90s are where it's at
A little backstory if you hadn't seen it ....
And Petty's bicentennial Firebird
It's not that I don't love figured woods, but Gibson has burned me out on it. You can get tops on a Standard or a Studio that rival tops on an Historic. Give me a goldtop, thanks
So many lemon bursts, I like cherry bursts better again !
But I'm in a BB/GT phase myself.
I like a little of most tops except gold tops . . .
A TRUE guitar enthusiast loves ALL LP's whether they're, Black, Burst, Goldtop, etc.............
I don't think any LP's are boring, but then again ,I'm a Certified Guitar Whore.
Any guitar in my collection makes me happy.
