~675 posts so far and I still haven't learned to multi-quote. So thanks to everyone (you know who you are) for your comments....it's clearly an incentive to keep posting all the gory details.

It was late last night by the time I was wired up, so I did get to plug it into a small amp that I use for recording, but today I'll try to red plate the tubes :)

I'm changing the caps and the wiring...it sounds too muddy. I used the Duncan "modern" wiring scheme and .047 caps:

Now I'm switching to a "vintage" wiring scheme, and .02 ceramic discs (also vintage). I think this is a close to the as built wiring as I can get:

Your chick has a nice guitar, but is a little, uh, hirsute for my tastes. But different strokes for different strokes, I guess.

This was a subtle, but amazing change. Now it sounds exactly what an SG should sound like (at least the way I remember my '69 sounding. Actually, even better!)

I am happy guy!! I declare this build finished (well, except for the pick guard).

No, it's not a white plastic pick guard....I cut out some "paper dolls" so that I can make templates, but you have to admit it's an interesting look:

    It turned out great! :thumb:

What kind of tuners did you use.

The knobs I have are much too green for my taste. Yours are the look I'm after.

    Again, great job.
