I have found a like new LP Custom at a good price. Has small single crack in the binding at each fret - on both sides of neck. Any thoughts about whether this will likely become a bigger issue?
    Can these be repaired?
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.

It's very common, nothing to really worry about unless it's excessive like a split all the the way through & deep.

This comes up from time to time.

It might have been refretted at some point--just a thought.

My '76 LP Custom has cracks at each fret, but plays just fine. If pieces start falling off, then become concerned, IMHO.

changes in humidity, the wood shrinks a touch, but the frets don't. And the cracks are usually just lacquer cracks from what I've read.

really common, I think all my guitars have them.

My CS ES-335 has the same single crack on each fret both sides of the neck. It's 10 years old and plays like butter. Not a problem as the other poster said it may have been refretted, either way it's nothing to worry about.

Downstairs we would tell you to get plastic binding(not ABS) and melt in acetone. It becomes a self- glue/filler. A drop or two of StewMac Colortone in Vintage Amber if the binding is yellowed and apply to cracks. Mask first-sand down and polish-invisible repair.Ole'Lefty

FYI... I believe it's caused by the fret tangs below the binding, some people recomend cutting the tangs just short or on a 45 to avoid this when refretting. I have an old LP with the cracks and I'm so used to seeing them it just looks "vintage" to me, not bad... Just my 2 cents.
