    Hey guys ,

What do you think is the best amp for classic rock tones ?? Marshall Plexi ? Fender Bassman ? Vox AC30? .. You get the idea !!! ... Obviously alot of peoples opinions of what classic rock is will vary , so the range of answers should be pretty diverse ! When I think classic 70's to 80's rock I think of Zeppelin , Aerosmith , Ted Nugent ,The Who , Queen , Boston ... etc

That's one of the good ones!

I do everything with a 5E3 clone, with a Sennheiser e906 mic when needed, a Fulltone '69 pedal, a delay and a Voodoo Lab Tremolo pedal, but I'm not trying to cop a lot of '60s and '70s tones to perfection.

It's great for Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top, James Gang, etc...

    It's a 1981 50 watt 2 x 10 combo with Tesla EL34's and vintage Telefunken smoothplate 12ax7's

It is a full stack, but lately I run it as 2 half stacks, and in Stereo. Stage left is the JCM 800 2203 (loud enough that I actually broke a window once) and stage right is a DSL 100.

The DSL can't even compare to the tone of this badboy. Its a 1983, I got it from the son of one of the guys in April Wine who's dad gave it to him and he didn't play it. It was absolutely mint when I got it... now the head and cabs look like they've been through a cheeze grater, but I keep up the maitenance on it and it is hands down the best 800 I've ever owned or heard.

My amp tech works out of a shop downtown, and the guy who owned the shop offered me anything I wanted in his store for trade.

    I politely refused. :D

I've had people come up to me after shows and beg me for it. One guy offered me $3000 for the head and bottom cab. Again, I said no.

This baby is going to my kids someday... or if I don't have any, its getting buried at sea with me. :D :D

Here's a pic of them side by side... not on stage though. All my stage pics lately look pretty bad... Too many red gels in the light cans... makes us all look like vampires or something. :D

Though I don't own a tube amp right now and the Marshall's always sound great with a LP, I'd be mighty happy with one or perhaps an old AC30...

Well my tastes run toward late 60s & 70s stuff. For that it's very, very tough to beat the 2061x Marshall thru a 4x12!
And I've tried several of the "standard" classics.

Used a Hot Rod Deville last night for the first time live... was a GREAT amp. Still Fender's best selling 'modern' model, and there is a reason!
