I'd heard the gold was on it as well when Gary got it... just wondering if the Grovers were on it when he got it (as he must have put the Schallers on since there's pics of both tuners on it once he had it). Maybe who ever put the Grovers on it also did the gold hardware?!?!

I had a chance to get Rossington #111 a few years ago (it's the guitar in my avatar). Just was a little out of my reach moneywise...I wish I would have stretched a bit further because I'm obviously still hurting yet. :(

Great guitar, great player too. Nice to see the guitar actually got played instead of sitting in a case all day.

    Great thread, thanks Flick!
I met Gary a couple of years ago. Really nice to us. I asked him for a pick,
and he gave one to me and one to my wife.

Double thumbwheels, I never noticed that before. Is that a common mod for abr-1 style posts? Seems like a good idea.

You have to remember back in the early to mid '70s,vintage gear was still a small cult.To add Grovers or Schallers to a guitar,or an extra strap button was common.
My '57 conversion has a strap button hole in the back too!

I 'fixed' the lefty photos. Sorry; I couldn't 'fix' the selector switch ring.

Hmm.... I guess that was because of the 13's he used to use?

Cool thread. :thumb: I thought it was worth a bump.

It's not known for certain. Gary himself backs up the "girl's boyfriend" story, but then again he did also say Steve Gaines never played a strat.

When I saw Skynyrd in Concert he used what looked like an R9 for all but two songs, Freebird and one half way through when he needed it to be re tuned. He is great, and has to be one of my favorite players ever.
