It's official. We decided on "Run for Cover." 5 out of 6 of us are former or active military, and I would say more than one of us has run for cover a few times over the past 17 years. We are also a cover band. Voila - Run for Cover it is.

The songs we've got down so far:

    Remedy - Black Crowes
Hard to Handle - Black Crowes (Otis Redding)
    Cheap Sunglasses - ZZ Top
    Mustan Sally - Wilson Pickett
    Shooting Star - Bad Company
    Young Lust - Pink Floyd
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
    Highway to Hell - AC/DC
    Back in Black - AC/DC
    Hot Blooded - Foreigner

    More to follow soon. [IMG]

I recommend not doing Mustang Sally.
    ;)
I’m jealous, though. My job keeps me from joining/starting a band with my friends. I really wish I could do more than the “get together and jam” thing.

I am with you guys on Mustang Sally. It is like punch line of cover tunes, but I am also not in charge. :)

That said, because we're going to have the 12 string out for Wish You Were Here, I've suggested we add Zeppelin's Tangerine and the Stones' Wild Horses. The fellas are game. (And of course, somebody else suggested Tom Petty's Learning to Fly. Not totally enthusiastic about that because it's a well beaten horse of a cover song too, but it's better than Mustang Sally. :p )

It's a bluesy song for all 70 year old pale people who know no other blues songs. There will be butts shaking any time you play it. I try to avoid it, but it will work in a pinch.

Good luck with the new band, OP!

Play what your audience wants to hear. I f'ing hate Mustang Sally, just like every other cover band member.

But, each and every time it gets played, the ladies are out there dancing & singing along.

So, check your artistic creativity at the door. It's not about you.

Great name imo. I'd have to imagine it has been used before or now though.

    Best of luck!

It had to have been. The reason we liked it is 5 of 6 of us are former Army, and 5 of 6 of us have actually run for cover at one time or another during our careers. It's like the perfect intersection of joke, convention and reality. ;)

Cool name. I have a buddy whose band is called Duck and Cover, I believe also because of some members' former military experience.

If you want to get white people moving and are apparently game to get your Cougar on, I'd recommend Hurts So Good. It's simple, but it's also an absolute textbook rock and roll song with lots of room to put your signature on it.

Don't shut out the lesbian crowd. Something for everybody, right? Maybe rework some old standards.
    She stopped shoving her today...
or I'm not Brucey. My name is Caitlyn. Brucey left you long ago.

There used to be a local group fronted by three or four easy of the eyes females called the Cover Girls. I thought that was pretty clever.

Mustang Sally. OK, the list of low lights in my musical career are many but possibly one of the lower ones was when my son was playing drums and we had this old soul singer friend of mine singing for us. He never sang, "Gonna have to put your flat feet on the ground" but would rather sing, "Gonna have to put you on the ground." The way he did it was pretty natural but--for whatever reason--it threw off my son who was a young fellow at the time and the song actually fell apart. Hard to believe? I was mortified. However, the people danced through the whole thing like nothing happened or, perhaps, they didn't know. Was one of the few songs they danced to all night. That's all I can type about it at the moment as the .38 I have in my mouth is making keyboard operation difficult. Oh the horror....

Speaking of .38.... I don't see any .38 Special on that list.
