JohnQ........ quite right!
Daltrey deserves to be higher on that list too.
Well, if it's not just rock singer, I wanna know where the Hell Stevie Wonder and Otis Redding are.
Baaaabbbbbyyy. here i am........... i'm a man on your scene!!!!!!!!
BEST song ever written!!!!!!
You gotta point, that's pretty damn rockin.
You got that right...everything that guy touches turns to gold.
Axl was a good singer, the best of all time? No fricken way man.
(crap list too)
I voted Axl - yo my man came in
(heads for bunker)
Really,, what were the voters smoking when they took this poll???
I had to laugh just reading the title. Axl was in the right place at the right time. GnR was a great band. Axl was not a great singer. Cat has absolutely no range whatsoever... I'd put him right up there with David Lee Roth on singing ability...
voting was in between nap time and diaper changes.........adults know better than voting for Axhole Rose.
Now if the list was "biggest douchebag of the 20th Century" I can see the #1 spot going to him.
I think Axl is a great singer with a unique voice like Steven Tyler, Brian Johnson, Bon Scott, Robert Plant. But the greatest? No.
GnR was a great band and it's been said if they would have kept going they would have gotten to be right up their with Zep and the rest of the big names because they were a great band. Slash is a great guitarist. No matter how much Axl is a douche, or how much Slash is overpopularized, you can't deny that they weren't a great band. Axl had a great stage presence and a great performer. It's unfortunate he let his personality and attitude ruin it. I think they would have been right there with Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, etc. I've heard that many times, and I believe it to be true. When Axl wouldn't cause a riot, they put on amazing rock performances with a lot of passion and energy. They rocked hard. Hey, at least they played rock when everyone else was doing the glam metal superstrat crap, they played Rock n Roll with LES PAULS! They did make some great music together.
But the GREATEST singer of all time?! No....just no.
Not to mention David Ruffin, Levi Stubbs, and Paul Rodgers, to name three.
You have no idea . .
the other MAIN confusion in the post is :
the distinction between a "singer" and a "frontman"
and the %age ratio of someones make up - that contributes to each
ie. someone can have an amazing voice but absolutely ZERO stage presence
OR someone with an average voice - but GREAT stage presence
For my money, GnR died when Izzy split. If Axl was the mouth of the band, and Slash the hands, then Izzy's grooves were the guts of GnR. When they lost him, they lost me.
I like GNR from AFD through UYI 1 and 2. My favorite member of the band personally is Slash, I think he is really something on guitar. But Izzy had great rhythm.
The present GnR is a friggin joke.
I can understand if you don't like him or think he shouldn't be that high on this list, but when you make a ridiculous statement like "he has no range whatsoever", you lose all credibility. Not only does he have INCREDIBLE range, but he has so much emotion in his singing. Which is not something everyone can do. Personally I don't like him and think he's a douchebag, but he is very talented.
