Probably as close to an "actual" Burst as I will ever be able to afford, My 74 Deluxe. Not saying that an actual 50 era burst will never come my way ( I do know where one is close by for the last 20 years) ,
Now to keep myself from putting one of my stashed P.A.F.'s in the bridge position.....

I bet that Deluxe kills it! Personally, I enjoy my '72 Custom as much as any high end custom shop or replica etc. Different formulas for different players.

One of the prettiest I've ever seen, no doubt.

    NICE!!!!!!! Beautiful figured Maple!

Every time I am playing my late 69 Deluxe I have the same feelings and just want to throw her under the router and get some real buckers in...

That one is flaming. They did a pretty nice job matching the three pieces of maple caps. If it's in original condition, I do hope you can control your urge to route it for humbuckers.

Greg, I'm curious to hear your thoughts on Norlin era Les Pauls.

I have never seen such a highly flamed Deluxe, a absolutely great find. I wouldn't change a thing.:wow:

Depends on the year, the early ones ,73 or so are great guitars, but then again it really all depends on the guitar in hand. But remember a lot of rock n roll was made with Norlin era Les Pauls, and SG's as well...

    A Very good looking DeLuxe!!
I got myself a -74 as well and struggle to get the sound I wanted.
I tried many amps(Marshalls) and ended up with one I never use this days, a Marshall JCM 900 Mark III 2500.
With gain all up to 20(!) + add some more Bass. Suddenly I got a sound from those minis that is in my opinion really great!!
If I use other LP with full grown HB, it doesn't sound that good with that amp....
Try that combination, it is pretty cheap solution and you don't have to rout the LP

    well don't :)
didn't route my 69 but cut the baseplate of an antiquity and it fits in the mini humbucker slot...long story short after I tried a humbucker instead of the mini i understood one thing you already have the real deal...those 1969 mini humbuckers have the paf tone in a unique package!!
can't say that to all mini's but those early on 69/early 70's got magic ,mojo and tone.
    cheers!

    * the antiquity is a very good clone of a humbucker paf-best I have heard -tried it against a real paf in the same guitar)

Are you torturing us on purpose? That, seriously, is my dream guitar. If I had a '59 burst, I would simply sell it and get one like yours -- though that's a hard-to-find item itself -- and be happy as heck. I'm one of those who loves mini-hums (and the extra space they free up), and could care less if a top is 3 pieces -- yours is gorgeous! That guitar seems to me to have a wonderful integrity; it all fits together beautifully. The bust is typically brigt -- but that one looks really good. Hope you're happy. Wowsers.

Nothing wrong with that! In fact, it was my uncle's '74 DeLuxe that lit my LP fire, when I was 5.

    Congrats, Greg!

Yes I am really impressed with the top matching that Gibson did on this one, I think it must have been one solid piece that was book match cut to get that top . 1974Deluxe 024.JPG
