OK since there seemed to be enough interest in this, here we go!!!

    What is it?
    • Every month I'll post a new backing track. It can be from any genre.
    • Download the track and record a solo over it.
    • Post your solo here along with what gear you used, recording equipment, and effects added. The more description you give the better.
    • I'm going to try and keep the backing tracks to under 2 minutes. Anything more is too daunting. Feel free to shorten it even more.
    • Try to get your recording in by the 3rd week of the month. We'll start over each month.
    • I'll take ideas on backing tracks so if you have a request, let me know.

    Why do this?
    • Because it'll be fun!
    • I think this will be a great way to share ideas and see how each other interpret a piece differently. It will also be a good way to share recording techniques and receive overall feedback on our playing if we desire it.
    • This is NOT a competition!!!
    • Majority of people on here post great feedback in a helpful constructive way.

    "But Bluto I'm scared!!!"
Look, I get it. Many of us are insecure about posting any of our own playing online. This is a safe place. I'm no guitar god. Keep it fun and I bet you'll learn a thing or two. If you're still unsure, read this: The Man In The Arena. Don't be that cold timid soul.

    So let's get started! :dude:

April's Track of the Month comes from Marc Seal. He has some great backing tracks if you're interested. It's in Cm and runs about 65 bpm. Try to have your submissions in by April 22nd. Let me know if you have any issues downloading the MP3.

    Have fun!!!! :slash:

    Kevin, I don't see a "download" option.

whew. Now I don't have to say it. :D

Really like this track, especially the lack of lightning speed.

Of course, you can still shred all over it, if that's your wont! :thumb:

(You won't hear me doing that, though.)

It's a nice, baleful track (at least the way I hear it), and I really need work on my minor key improv, so it's timely. It's subtle, though, and I'm noob enough, that the chord changes aren't exactly jumping out at me the first couple of times through. How it makes me feel, however, is, and that's more than half the battle, I figger.

Ok, try it again. Looks like I had to turn the download option on. Let me know if you have any issues.

Yeah you don't get many opportunities to solo in Cm or Eb Maj. I don't anyway. Not too common in rock. I love the track though. Definitely easy to find a nice groove to fall into.

Not sure on the chords either.

Maybe you could tell what key you record each piece in.

First time we've tried this. I've got tons of high quality backing tracks. I've a great SRV-ish in D we can do at some point.

Two measures of intro..two beats is way too fast...more warning for the end as well.

The 1st measure gives you the feel (BPM), then after you establish that you are actually counting it off.

    s'il vous plait

OK three practice runs and 1st take, Done. Could be better tho... where do I post this file for all to ponder.....????

Not complaining.....but its too short. However a very good track and some interesting changes that I considered following and would have if I wasn't sleepy right now. Over all this could be a good thread. I can't wait to hear others.

Some noted chord changes for complex runs would be helpful in the future.

    First two takes.

    1. I'm thinking of Bad Company

    2. I started to channel some 80s hair band.

Lots of garbage, as I said , these are the first two shots at it.

    Public Service Anouncement - it's not 100% in C minor :)

Check out the middle section, notice how the mood "lightens" and you'll sus it out in no time.

Great idea for a thread BTW - enjoying it so far.

The original is over 4 minutes. If you're interested I can post it for you to download.

IMO, anything over 2 minutes is going to be too intimating for a lot of people. Especially someone just learning. Average solo in a song is 4-8 measures anyway. Kind of the difference between writing a short story and a novel. I also don't want this to take too much of someone's time to record. Especially if we're going to be doing one every month.

Let me know if you want the original. :)
