I just noticed this on my headstock,

I bought the les paul custom heritage cherry flame top.. it came with no scratches and still had the plastic peel off covers on the pups and pickguard.. love it, but when i checked the headstock it had a sticker over the original serial and also had a embedded stamp that said "used" at first i thought it read 'U.S' but i was incorrect.

Also the last 2-4 digits were filed off. My serial begins with U06 or something. I'm assuming its the 2006 mik.

Just curious if anyone else had the same thing.

anyrate, it plays well although i want to change the pickups asap. Oh yeah one of the screws on the high e tuner is missing.

i paid 500, was it worth that much? meh..

Mine is marked "USED" as well, but I still cant find anything wrong with it. Kinda like my used car and my used house.

I assume that the responders aren't aware of what this means. It means that that guitar is a factory second not to be sold as new. It's off the books and cannot be covered under the warranty. It was sold at a discount, many of them in the famous Music123 clearance where the Standards went for $99. That was 2007. There original owner may have paid less than $500US for it, as that was close to the price brand new. Custom seconds at Musiciansfriend are around $100-$150 what the new, perfect models are going for.

Most people report that they can't even tell where the flaws are, might be a paint drip, or binding that's off by a bit, but they are all almost always in perfectly playable condition.

Yeah, I have several Epiphones marked "used" or "2nd".

I got 'em cheaper cause they were factory 2nds, but they're still GREAT guitars!! :)
