I've always wanted one so I finally picked up a Travis Bean to keep my Kramer company.

I haven't picked up on too much chatter on aluminecks, is anyone out there still rocking one or have they gone the way of the dodo?

Let's see some pix if you have 'em...

    Very Cool!
I've got a DMZ2000, which is a cool guitar, but a TB is obviously ├╝ber-cool :yesway:
    Here's mine:

What pickups are in your Kramer? They don't look like DiMarzios?!

It'd be great if there was a set of humbuckers that did what the TB pups do... I'd be on that like white on rice!!! A lot of the Bean pickup magic has to do with the way they are bolted directly to the aluminum neck though, so even if the pups were recreated in humbucker size, that'd only get you part of the way there.

Beans and Kramers are both amazing players though... and I'm sure some of the other Aluminum necks are pretty awesome as well.

I haven't played one in a while, but I remember TB guitars to be very heavy and with cold (to the touch) necks.

They are heavy, but I have Les Pauls that are heavier... and as far as the cold, this will be my first winter with it, so we shall see. The Kramer has maple inserts in the neck to disperse the cold but I've also heard the rumors about the neck chill factor... again, we shall see.

heavy, yes. But its not an awkward heavy- kinda hard to explain (somewhat like a heavy SG w/o neck dive even though it doesn't make sense). The cold neck is actually quite nice in the summer, but in the dead of winter its chilly for a song or two, but it'll stay in tune for months, seriously.

I played one about 40 years ago, but am left wondering: how do you set neck relief with those things?

You don't.... My Kramer always has the the same, very slight relief, regardless of humidity. The only slightly annoying things is that the tuning goes sharp once the guitar has been "warmed up" for maybe 10 min or so ==> probably best leaving it under the stage lights or warming up with it if it's to be played live ;)

Since the neck is perfectly straight there is no need to set any relief... warping is never a concern. Once the nut and bridge are aligned with your desired action the only concern is keeping it in tune (which, as mentioned, isn't a concern if it is pre-warmed).

I'm completely and totally set guitar-wise. I have exactly what I need.

However, if a Travis Bean ever crosses my path, I will buy it.

I'm tempted to sell mine every now and then when I look at what they're going for these days, but then I pull it out and play and I wish I could kick my own $ss because it's just so darn cool.
