She is, but my job isn't...six days a week, and the seventh is spent preparing for the next six.

I keep thinking I will get some time, but never do...life in Tokyo...

bloody jobs, you should start a line of guitars, make all of them one of a kind and sell them for a mint

This actually isn't a bad idea, Barnaby. You could find a job a little less demanding, plus rent a place without a landdragonlady, and you're good to go.
Hell, you could sell handmade amps, guitar and pickups. WE'LL be rich (speaking as your agent of course).

Being a multiple Ph.D. ... it takes some more than guts, to go full handy, I'd say  But if Master B. goes this way, I'd know that someone has fulfilled a very valuable dream.
You know, Cain, that paskiainen (Poro knows! :dude:) transaction costs theory rules the hobbyists away from that sweet sweet income flow :(

    Don't think I haven't considered it! :D

Sadly, I couldn't guarantee either of the two elements needed for success:

    1) Being able to produce guitars at a consistently high standard and
    2) Being able to sell them for a reasonable amount

Therefore, it will have to remain a pipe dream for now. I'll keep working away slowly, however, and hope that, once day, I can reach a level as a builder where it makes sense to get a workshop going and produce a few instruments and other parts for sale.

I'd also actually like to learn to play the guitar one day...:hmm:

Hm... Top down designing seems to suggest a wooden vintage modern pure tube specialized headphone amp :)

I am in the same situation... The 18 watt clone and the hifi speakers are collecting dust.
At the same time, for hifi I have a tube preamp, transistor power amp for the Stax electrostatic headphones, and tube and hybrid poweramps for the various electrodynamic headphones (not for the speakers, only for the headphones) - and an insane amount of 832A, 6V6G, GT and GTAs, 6N2Pi, EF94s, E88CC and CCas, and all all the derivatives...

So why not a tube guitar amp purely for headphones? :)

I would totally love something like that! I'm more comfortable cranking up if I can contain it.
