I just ran into these on Youtube. They are solid state devices that replace 12ax7 tubes. They come in 3 gain levels to customize your amp's gain level. They don't get hot and conserve your amp's circuitry by drawing less power. The company has 4 patents on these. About RetroValve VTRD's Check out the demos, particularly the plexi.

Also, apparently, Jet City Amplification will be manufacturing and marketing them:

Why would anyone want to convert a tube amp to solid state?

Watching that video now- I had seen these on youtube awhile back I think but forgot what they were called.

Everybody complains about cheapo chinese tubes and how new tubes just aren't as good as the old ones, so maybe this has a potential to build a new and better type of tube?

Yeah, I'm going to pay extra money for a tube amp, and then take out the tubes, and put in transistors.....not.

Hmm, apparently that red preamp tube has 20% more gain than a 12ax7 according tho the video. I guess that means that you could probably get some small old amp that barely has any gain and swap the preamp tube for this if you want more.

Ill be honest though. My vox has seen so mant tubes, it would not hurt a bit to try these out. I can't seeing myself likeing them, but I guess I would have to try em in my unit.

I have one question, is it safe to change preamp tubes while the is ON!!?

Sadly they had to make them look ugly with ugly colors......

They aren't really doing that though. Even putting aside the tubes themselves, most solid state amps are built in a fundamentally different way from a solid state amp, right?

Not going to pass judgment until I hear more.

No, but a tube amp is made to heat up glass and kill. Not run cold soild state tech.
It makes no sense unles there it is some breakthrough technology that makes a tube amp run solid state tubes kill harder. Ill bet against that, but but not close my mind.

Hmm, I'll give it a look, that way I can get more gain out of my amp. You guys have to understand that this is probably marketed at people with cheap, small, tube amps (like me), and not really for boutique amps. I might be wrong tough.....

I find it quite refreshing that someone is at least thinking about new technology as a replacement for tubes since everyone else is just sitting around waiting for all the old tubes to be used up and gone....

So let me get this straight...the same guys who are virtually drooling all over the Kemper modelling preamp which is 100% solid state are bagging these solid state preamp tubes. Does that pretty much cover it? :hmm:

I wouldn't say I was drooling over the Kemper. I am skeptical of most things at first glance.:)

We have that technology. Modeling software can sound freaking great. That's the future. Stubborn fools such as myself will hold onto the old technology as long as possible, and I'm pretty sure that'll be the rest of my life...

I'm just sayin'. Fake tubes aint the future. The future's already here.
