I have Duncan SH1 and Sh4 combined with a tiny bit of delay totally nail the 70s sound.
Thats what I am all about. This combination gets it
    :cheers2:

.::EDIT::. I also think Brad Whitford doesnt get enough credit for the asskicking
stuff he does on 'real' (70s) Aerosmith stuff. Mick Taylor syndrome.

I've got some ideas on pickups I'd like to try to see how they fit in that tone ballpark. Vineham 6070's, Wolfetone Marshallhead, someday something from James/ReWind - but I've got to sell a guitar (a redundant guitar, more or less) to get the money first (and I've got to install a Guitarforce Rebelfire in my Epi LP Prophecy before moving on to another guitar - I just need some new pots first, and the free time to install them).

Try OD2 and dial the gain way back, and tweak your eq.

Jailbreak era was mini humbucker LP deluxe into Marshall non mv. Robbo used 2 echoplexs, 1 to drive the front end (I believe). He also used a wah which affects his tone

in Combination, I hear a trem equipped guitar (guessing Strat..)....the feed backy part..

I got really damn close to the main riff tone with my 57/62 equipped Strat into my '74 JMP.

Or the late Dick Wagner, who played a number of solos on "GYW". Wagner & Hunter were producer Bob Ezrin's "go-to" guys.

Still have an obsession with the "Jailbreak" tone. "Cowboy Song" is my all-time favorite Thin Lizzy track. Not to be redundant, but a medium output, PAF-style pickup and a Marshall type preamp is a good starting point! Bring your gain up slowly, EQ to taste and viola! And of course, a LARGE part of their tone came from their fingers.....

^^^One of the best live RAWK albums, period. Aside from No Sleep 'til Hammersmith, it might be my favourite. Luv the Bob Seger cover!

Be sure to check out the 'Peel Sessions' record with lots of live takes of the different Bell, Moore and the Robertson/Gorham line-ups. I especially like the aggressive guitar solo's of Robbo on 'Killer Without A Cause'.

Also overlooked is the 'Chinatown' album. For me the best sounding Lizzy studio album. The guitars are just fierce! No mini-humbuckers here, but PAF's.

Just played that "Warrior" track from the youtube link.....OH MY GOSH!!! Haven't heard it since 1979.......very cool stuff! Robertson is just murdering that wah pedal. Seeing Scott Gorham playing that Sunburst Deluxe inspired me to own a Les Paul way back when my first electric was a Kent..........thanks for the very cool Thin Lizzy jams!
