It is kind of an adventure, going from something you're comfortable with to something new and you don't really know much about other than what you've read and listened to online.

For me I jumped in with both feet or maybe I dove in head first so to speak :naughty: Sold almost all my tube amps to do it, so it's not really costing me anything out of pocket. (The only way I could do this.)

The first piece of the puzzle came in today, a Gator 4U rack. The Matrix should be here Friday :fingersx:

Lesson learned: I probably should have gotten the 6U because I won't have room for anything else in there. Being new to the rack world I didn't realize the Axe and the Matrix are both 2U thick :dunno: Live and learn :)

    Cool thread Joe. :thumb:

And I agree 100%, even if I end up hating modelling amps I've had a blast building the rig. :dude:

I've got it all paid for but haven't got a thing yet, the first to arrive should be the Friedman cab and then sometime in the future the Amplifire will land in Oz. :hmm:

So I just realized "the rig" is two items, it seems I've read so many reviews of so many products lately that I thought it would be more. :laugh2: :420:

And I've paid for most of it with gear sales too, plus a few Saturdays helping the boss renovate his house.

I look forward to an update! Do you think the 10X will be collecting dust soon?

I can't wait to try a modeller at home, when the timing and cost work in my favor. :fingersx:

This thread needs an end shot. Here ya go.. hahaha

Absolutely the best experience I have had. I was playing the "Cork Sniffer" preset last night. It's built on a Dumble amp. Joey, ya gotta check that out. I think it was preset 125 or something close.

We're better off now with all the solid state stuff than we were when I was running all-tube preamps and all-tube power amps. Those things generate some HEAT. While you're out looking around in rack-land, make a note of the 1U fan setups that will go between two heat-generating pieces of electronics and the ones that will fit in the leftover space at the BACK of the rack and move hot air...

Again, it's the sources OUTSIDE the guitar world that are the most helpful. In this case, rack-mount computer servers need cooling...

Frankv has a Furman power conditioner (with pop-out lights) in the top of the rig.

    I have a Carvin AC-120 (about $149) that's similar. AC120S Power Conditioner

The round things are the pop out lights (manditory when everything is flat black). The LEDs tell you what's plugged in and what's receiving power. You can set the unit to turn things on sequentially, with a programmable delay between each plug (helps save the gear from surge spikes). The display on the right side tells you what the *actual* wall voltage is. This has sometimes been an eye-opener...

Damn Fedex! Said the address was wrong, I called, the address was right  I was standing on the porch talking to the gal when he drove by ,
she said we'll call him and he'll turn around. Well that didn't work out either.

So I pick up the Matrix at 9am :applause: Hopefully :fingersx:
