    Hello,

I was asked to replace about 2 inches of binding on a `69 LPC.

I need to get the right material in time, because the customer does not want to part with the guitar for longer then one week.

So my question is : is the LP Custom binding celluloid or is it Royalite / ABS also ?
Which thickness do I need to recreate the binding ?

    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks
    Cheers

It definitely would not be celluloid. I would just get royalite, and melt the two together with acetone. The color might be off, but you can tint the lacquer for a good blend.

When I refin'd my '60 Rivoli, the previous refin had chewed the binding really badly, and I just melted Bartlett's royalite and pasted it on, then sanded it to shape. After some amber lacquer, you can't see any of the shade differences.

edit: You're not talking the layered body binding, are you?

I was talking about the body binding of a LP Custom. 7 layers black and white.
The question is to buy ABS or celluloid ( which is very tough to get here in Europe ).
And the thickness of each layer ( 3 black and 3 white of the same thickness ? Or are the black smaller than the white ? Plus the 7th / outer white layer which is thicker )

    Thanks

The inner binding is thinner than the outer (last layer) binding.

    IsnĀ“t it 6 layers 0.02 and the outer is 0.06 ?
In total the binding will be 0.18
