Not sure I'm following.... 10A125 = 25watt speaker, 3ea in a 5E7 which is a 26 watt spec (this dialed in @30w). If I was feeding one, I would agree, but 3ea in parallel should have been fine. :dunno:

So it would seem, but from my own experiences I know better. The low power 1.25" VC speakers, and especially the alnicos, don't handle much. I always go with the larger VC and higher wattage.

But we run 22w Deluxe > a single 25watt speaker with 1.25 VC with great results. :run:

The "great results" were when the amp was used within it's limitations, unless one wanted the O/D breakup of a speaker pushed beyond it limits. Fender used a variety of speaker during the Bf/SF era. Most of them were not that good. Fender selected speaker based on price point, not quality. Keep in mind the BF Deluxe used a 12" speaker, not 10". Crank up a Deluxe and the speaker will not keep up. And, it didn't take much to overdrive the speakers is just about any Fender amp (from Champ to Showman) of the era. It's why Fender offered JBLs that had 4" voice coils.

So far so good with my Webers, a 12a125 in my 5e3 and 10a125’s in my 5f1 and 5f4. I think I went with 30 Watts all around with the 5e3 and 5f4.

It's a rather subjective thing I guess, some folks like max efficiency and minimal breakup in their speakers. I get it. In my context I was strictly speaking 5E3, which to my knowledge were produced with 25w 12" Jensen Alnico units like whats in my amp pic'd above. . Yes the BF/SF era brought the Fender- Oxfords into play, and I agree they were not quality. But anyway, I digress, those 10A125's melted and the 25w replacements as well as the 3rd original are cranking away...so I have to assume pre-mature mortality on those two. Hasn't stopped me totally, I have a 65 Super Reverb that was a salvaged chassis. I put it in a 1x15 box and bought a 15A150. 40w amp, 50w Alnico speaker with a small voice coil. So far so good and the breakup at mid volume is outstanding.... I'll see how this old p12 does in this and go from there!

Keep in mind the 5E3 is about a 12 watt amp.

Back to the 5E3 build, she's done!...heat soak and cycle testing is complete. Reversing polarity on the OT primary fixed the NFB squeal, so now all positions work. The NFB seems to inject a slight hum and has some overtones I'm not sure I'm liking. Might have to play with the resistor value a little.

So all in all one bad preamp tube and zero assembly defects! :D

Thanks! I'll be following your thread with anticipation! Hope you get your parts before this next storm! I'm going to do a voltage matrix and try and do a clip with a decent audio track over the next few days!
    Peace! :thumb:

So this morning I've decided I dont want to flog this 56yo speaker, so I am going to put it back in the lil Ampeg it came in, and install the P12R reissue. I broke it in for ~12hours playing my ipod. Hoping it's just a little tighter than this old one.
