`59 serial number??

    Hi all, How do I find out if this guitar is a `59 re-issue?
    The number is inked on and is 1 1590. Ive looked everywhere but doesnt mention if its a `59 or not??
    Its got the brown lifton case etc and is mint but wanna be sure it what the seller says?

    Based on that serial number, it's not a '59.

    They start off with 9 then the number right after will be the year it was produced.

    Example: 9 7630

    "9" for '59
    "7" being an '07 reissue
    630 The 630th '59 made that year

    How about some pics or more detail? The lifton is just a case.

    Thanks for that. Did all `59`s start with a 9?
    Cant get pics `cos I havnt got the guitar as yet?

    If that guitar was made in '91, it could be a '59 (pre-Historic) reissue. A good way to tell would be to check under the pickups. To be 100% sure, you can also call up Gibson Customer Service and give them the s/n.

    It could be either a pre-1993 reissue or a Classic. The numbering system that was explained by "Es Paul" has been used since the "Historic" line began in 1993.
