i saw it and was wondering why it´s for sale again..

    but something else:

    Bridge volume pot – 1346043 (1960) – 586k
    Bridge tone pot – 134738 (1957) – 603k

wow, maybe one of the keys for that burst tone?

I hadn't noticed the pot values but that might explain why the bridge pickup is significantly brighter than I was expecting. I've been having to keep the top end reigned in on the tone pot pretty much all the time. Having said that I do need to redail the amp in as my rigs currently all set up for an old tele fitted with a pretty dark paf in the neck.

I'd switch the bridge & neck volume pots. Get the highest value pot in the neck and it will add treble and the lower value pot in the bridge will tame the treble a bit. Just a thought...

That's not a bad idea at all although the neck does just sound soooo good as it is and I'd hate to do anything to upset it, you know, toneless modern solder and all that :naughty:

    Guts of it are:

This Les Paul was originally built in 1952 and did not have any serial number stamped in the back of the headstock as many others from that year. It was refinished completely (front, back and neck) in the early ‘80s, supposedly by the Gibson factory. Dean Gagliardotto bought it from a Minister in Tenessee and had it converted to 1957 specifications by Terry Mueller. Dean supplied all the original / period-correct parts for the conversion.

Tom Murphy painted an invented 1957 serial number (7 5225) with a font that looks identical to the original one.

The guitar has no breaks and includes the following parts:

    • Unopened double black PAFs (obviously with their original covers). Charlie measured the bridge pickup at 8.0k, and the neck one a little less.
    • Pots & caps are period correct for 1957:
    o Neck volume pot – 134623 (1956) – 456k
    o Neck tone pot – 134738 (1957) – 436k
    o Bridge volume pot – 1346043 (1960) – 586k
    o Bridge tone pot – 134738 (1957) – 603k
    • Wiring harness/switch/jack connector are original from 1952.
    • Tuners are single-line, single-ring ("sealed" tuners) with the small lubrication hole.
    • ABR-1 is period-correct from the 1950s.
    • Tailpiece is period-correct from the 1950s.
    • Neck reset to accomodate the correct angle was done by Terry Mueller.
    • ‘Angel Parts’ pickup rings.
    • The pickguard that came with the guitar was recut from old plastic by Terry Mueller. I installed a period-correct one from the 1950s, recut for a guitar with humbuckers.
    • The case is a 1990s Gibson Custom Shop one.
    • Toggle ring is not original nor period-correct.
    • Switch tip is original from 1952.
    • Backplates are original from 1952.
    • Truss rod cover is original from 1952.
    • Knobs are period-correct from 1950s

I am really jealous... :naughty: Not generally a fan of the conversion phenomenon at all, but occasionally there are guitars where is has to have been the right thing to do.

I'm 40 miles south of Manchester. If you're ever passing give me a shout and drop in and give her a thrash.

I'm beginning to feel a little persecuted with most of Eastern Europe seemingly trying to sell my new baby for me!

She's an absolute beauty tone wise although I'm still learning to drive her properly. There's a vast array of sounds available depending on volume and tone positions. I especially like the big kick in terms of gain level over the last 15% of the volume travel - my tubescreamer is virtually redundant.

The neck fits my hands absolutely perfectly and is remarkably different in the way it feels, both in terms of width and depth, to my alnico custom (which is the closest thing I have to compare it to). It's strange as they're pretty close when you measure them. I suppose the biggest issue to get to grips with is the neck angle being a touch shallow resulting in the bridge sitting lower than I'm used to. I tend to prop my right hand off the pickguard and/or the bridge using my little finger so this means that my playing position is subtly "off" enough make me have to think about it at times. I'll get used to it soon enough though I'm sure.

Weightwise she's a hair lighter than the alnico custom and about half the weight of my 25/50 custom.

All in I'm chuffed to bits with her. I'm grateful that she cropped up when she did when I was fortunate enough to have a pile of cash lying around.

Very cool guitar indeed mate, congrats! Thats interesting about the feel of the neck even though both have similar measurements. Sometimes a neck just had a 'feel' to it.

Hey guys, I'm new to this Forum. Hello to everyone!

Just stumbled over this thread because it seems the LP that is topic here is on sale again on the bay. Since there seem to be a lot of scam offers earlier this year I thought it could be worth it to mention the new offer here.

Vintage Gibson Les Paul 1952 1957 Conversion mit orig. PAF Humbucker | eBay

    Is this offer true?
