me and dad started on the vertical 2x12 cab today =)

here are pics of what we got done.

i plan to run a beveled "picture frame" strip around the front of it about the size of the piece of scrap i sat on the edge to show how it will sit. this will make the handles appear to be in the middle as well

    dove tail joints

i plan to bevel the edges on the front frame, as well as the rest of the cab, this will give a nice clean look =)

im going to stain it fairly dark and use a black grill cloth.

ill be using two WGS greenback clones, and my phaez DC 14 to power them. I plan to build a matching head cab for the DC to match the 2x12 cab.

Vert 2x12? Nice! And double nice with the finger joints.

Also dads seem to always be a good help with woodworking projects. My dad is no luthier or artist, but damn if he didn't make my 2x12 build a whole lot easier because of his general handyman and woodworking knowledge.

Can't wait to see how it turns out!

    Stain, dye or french polish?

I saw stain, but what colour tint like? Yellow or reddish warm?

I'm getting into the french polish thing right now :)

im going with a dark brown/ash color, its hard to describe.... think black/brown/dark grayish.... it will favor the black grill cloth nicely =)

as far as method, im going to go with a stain.

indeed! dad has built tons of stuff over the years.... he can do quick figuring in his head with measurements.... something im still figuring out lol....

the dove tail joints are something new to both of us though.

i had never used a dove tail jig before this project, but once you get it set up its pretty fool proof if you take your time.

    thanks everyone =D

whats the consensus on adding a support beam between the holes in the baffle?

ive seen folks leave it out, saying its not necessary.... then on the other hand ive heard folks say it should to be there....

i always notice that open backs almost never have it (obviously as its open in the space where it would attach) ...that is unless a place for it to attach is added... rare, but ive seen that too.

i plan to run three boards up the back to enclose the cab, all placed vertical as the cab wills stand, the middle one will be removable (convertible cab)

    Nice work, Bling!

    Crafty.
Did you use a template for those "blind" dovetails, or did you draw them from scratch???
A hard technique to master (by hand).

    Looking good!

I'd say no middle support, your cabinet wood is thick enough, than thing will be a tank.

Also make the head can match the 2x12 so it fits on top perfectly.

Yeah I have no center support in my vertical 2x12, thing is so solid there's no vibrations at all.
