Anyone else think this one is going to make its mark right alongside the 2015 "improvements?"

Yep.... honestly, it reminds me of the cheap Dean and ESP LTD models that try to loosely resemble Gibson models.

If it were $1200 maybe. But not $4000.

I do not like it at all, and the price is just plain stupid. But it's one option amongst N available, and a limited one at that. Nothing comparable to the 2015s' improvements (many of which I liked btw) on almost all the USAs made that year.

I really like them but not at the price.

If they sold them as a USA version for 1,500-2,000 I`d be in.

I too like it. A lot. I just couldn't pay that price, for any guitar.

Same here, but I think they should've gone with a more appropriate headstock.

Neck through would have been cool.

That model should be called the Gibson “Meh”...

Firebird reverse headstock with black veneer for the front and a colour to match the body for the recess...?

I quite like the look of the candy apple red version (and a couple of the other colour options) but they really did need to be a bit more imaginative than something that clearly looked like a Les Paul headstock and neck on body that had Les Paul carving, Les Paul pickup arrangement and Les Paul switch and control positioning...

The asymmetric double-cut body shape seems fine, in itself, but the whole thing just needed a bit more thought through.

Oh, and NOT at that price!!

I do realise that the ‘17 DC was a Custom Shop model but there’s no reason at all that they couldn’t do versions of this in the regular Gibson USA line-up and price them to broadly match the LP Standard / Traditional / Classic (with levels of features to match).

There’s also clearly scope for HP versions too — which might make even more sense on this (slightly) more modern-looking guitar, including a vibrato bridge option alongside the other HP features.

Would all that have worked better...?

I don't think enough people will own them to actually take a survey. Hold on let me put on my Amazing Carnac hat and look into the future. I see ...I see... Modern Double Cuts with steep dealer discounts at the end of the year

I really like them but as a $1900 guitar. 4K is insane.

Maybe that's what I have the most issue with...the insane price. I'd probably take a much less critical look at it if it was around $1800.

I only play guitars that I find attractive, if I don't, it really doesn't matter if it sounds like millions bucks, I won't play it anyway.
I won't take this even if Gibson was giving them away! So ugly!

I remember talking about these on the "2018 rumors" thread. A guy at Sam Ash told me every LP in the 2018 USA lineup was a modern DC.

Then it became obvious it was ONE model in the custom shop.

The price is the killer on these. 4K. Id have liked to seen a straight pull through the nut. But the volute, belly cut, and heel I like.

Edit: also cool: 24 frets & it's under 9 lbs with no relief.

It looks like ass. Nuno Bettencort ass. Plain, no imagination. Put together by committee (with HJ as the "committee").

Wouldn't buy it if it was an Epi for $800. Too many guitars out there to even give this a passing thought.
