And how many old bursts have you actually seen?
I too am not a big fan of these faded finishes. They‘re hit or miss it seems. On some, the color just ends too abruptly.
I have done a refret on a 1958 Standard when I worked in San Francisco, then Did another refret on a 1959 Standard for a guy in Switzerland, and of course I have been quite a lot at guitarpoint since i used to live around the corner. during my time in cologne we had also once a burst I the Workshop but my colleague did the job, I just had a look at her.
For the rest only pictures, like evrybody can see them.
And of course all the usual books about this topic.
Well hopefully you didn't take their word for it....
I’m confused. Have posts with pictures been removed here? I no longer see the faded burst that at least I thought I was referring to. Weird. I think the flow of color on some leaves a lot to be desired.
Left: Absolutely stunning and beautiful.
Right: Odd and unnatural.
Hit and miss right there for me.
This is a thread about Braz guitars. I don't think the one's above are Braz boards......IIRC, your pictures were in another thread.
Yes the ones from the CS‘s Twitter are regular 18s. Mr Dalbergia must have referred to the first one in this thread which I don’t think has a stop in the pattern. Weird. There was a Braz 18 with such a stop in the burst in some thread today... lol.
Edit: I’m stupid apparently! I was thinking of another Braz one on the other forum.
Edit 2: Oh well... what I think shouldn’t matter anyway. I apologize. My comment was mostly made with regard to the real burst comparison. I know this is useless anyway but I thought it was a fair point to say that some fades don’t look very natural. Doesn’t matter what I think though and the guitar was great anyway.
Well, I think most here are anonymous, and post pics just for general info. But if someone takes time to upload post pics, and people start saying how terrible it is, he has a right to delete his posts. No one wants to hold a baby up for ridicule. Also not worth it to keep reading others disparage his unique and beautiful burst. I personally think every Brazilian is worth seeing, just to see all the variations. Of course, these are not vintage-correct guitars for at least half a dozen reasons, and most know that.
Very true. I was just being stupid and mixed it up.
The picture of the guitar I referred my negative post is gone.
The very first guitar in this thread looks killer, nearly like an old violin replica, really nice.
The guitar I refers as sloppy paint job was something else.
Now my post from above is kind of misleading....
I dig the 2018 fades, they're refreshing. They Suhr don't look traditional
Seems like the only other series offering this sort of finish are the USA HPs.
Yes, I was misled by your post.
But, I understand now.
..........an interesting post.
Can’t help wondering with the 03 braz grains varied a lot, why are all the braz on 17/18 so black and hardly any grains.
I love seeing all of these guitars. Of course some are more to my taste than others, just like everyone here. If Gibson only made one type or color of burst, can you imagine what would be said about them? I read all of the posts in this thread, and I think the confusion and comments about a different guitar were well handled and everything in this thread is back on track.
I like seeing these guitars because it might just be the next new NGD post that yet again changes my idea of the perfect color or burst pattern for an RI. There are some that I personally wouldn't pick, but they all add to my knowledge and I always remember that the OP of any NGD thread loved the guitar enough to spend thousands and thousands of dollars on it..... because it moved him/her in some way.
Back to this thread, all guitars posted so far are fantastic looking, IMO.
I'm no fan of the fade look either...just looks too fakey and extreme. Just doesn't look right if there is no burst pattern on the butt end of the guitar.
I just bought this today from HOG. 2018 R9 Brazzy in Lemon. I guess the weight is a tad high but I don't stand when I play anyway.
Wow, and nothing wrong with that weight! Congratulations!
Yep that weight is pretty right IMHO.
