    Some people think rare=valuable.

And it isn't really all that rare. You can almost always find used Elite/Elitists on ebay and Reverb. Maybe that exact finish is a little rarer than the rest, but that would be worth another couple hundred bucks, not THAT much!

The seller's take is that it is a 2007, when that line was closed.

You wouldn't get $10,000 for one of the last ones off the Kalamazoo line, you're definitely not getting it for a 2007 Elitist.

Only a handful of people think Elitists are better than a $1,200 guitar. And none of them are speculative collectors.

The other possibility is that he doesn't really want to sell it.

When I first saw the listing I thought it said $1,000. Then I noticed that there was an extra 0.

Fishing for someone who wants to buy the most spendy. This is actually a pretty smart seller tactic with a reasonable chance of landing a (dumb) whale.

Do you really think there might be a dentist or lawyer that wants to score a big-ticket guitar that will "settle" for an Epiphone?

Maybe that's the root of the deal.

    A) List guitar for $10,000
    B) Get a buddy to "buy" it.
    C) Insure it with the $200 shipping
    D) have it 'damaged" or "go missing"
    E) PROFIT!

I'm a bit disappointed that nobody here has called out: "Made from hand selected wood. "
As opposed to what? Machine-selected? Dat marketing wank.

Either this guy made an innocent mistake of listing this guitar as $1000 but with an extra zero or the wife has asked him to throw some of his junk away.

Like my brother keeping a For Sale sign in the window of his '66 Porsche 911, but kept it in the garage and never drove it ;)

I had one exactly like it. Paid $900 for it. Practically all those Fujigen Standards come in that faded sunburst, with the flamey veneer top. Damn nice guitar, great neck, and great tone. This one's going for 2 1/2 times what it's worth, and that shipping charge is ridiculous. What a schmuck.

I'd never pay the asking price ever.

I did land an amazing '03 Epiphone Elite LP Black Custom for $300 a few months ago.

I will say it's an amazing sounding a playing guitar that can hold it's own against much more expensive guitars.

I wouldn't pay the going rate on a lot of the Elite/Elitist are going for these days.

The fact that people do pay the going rate means that there is always somewhere will to
pony up the price for these guitars.
