    Hello again!

First of all, thanks to everyone who replied offering advice on my last thread!
I didn't end up going for that particular LP (due to a couple of reasons), but the amount of replies I got in a short space of time was great.

This forum really is a brilliant place to be when looking for genuinely good, friendly advice - thank you all!

    Right, moving on...

I've been speaking to a guy in London about taking his 2005 Gibson Les Paul Custom off his hands.
It looks sweet as a nut, and it comes with that big ol' flight case that you see pictured (will be handy when I'm travelling with the band).

Just thought I'd run it by you guys first... the only question I have to ask is:

Is everything about this guitar legit?

Just wanted to make sure it is exactly what it says on the tin.

This LP would be a dream guitar for me, so I'm excited at the prospect of owning it but also trying to be a bit cautious.

I don't wanna get stung and end up with something that isn't what I thought it was... so just thought I'd pop by for some re-assurance.

Also, people in the UK, how much would a second hand custom like this usually sell for?
Just so I know whether it's wise to try and drive him down on the price a bit.

    Thanks in advance! :thumb:

Of all the threads on forum about fake guitars and all the things people have pointed out about them, how many items on this guitar did you check and say, "Yep, that looks right?"

I know next to nothing about Gibson guitars, and I haven't had chance to read through all the fake guitar threads as I've only just received the pics and only just got out of work.

Hence the reason I came here first to get advice from more knowledgeable folk.

I've got my answer (albeit in a very condescending manner from yourself), so that's that.

I will stay on the look out for a legit Les Paul that catches my eye!

I will also take the time to read the fake guitar threads so I don't have to pose these sorts of question in the future, wasting your valuable time in the process.

Oh and thanks HRC for giving a clear answer without trying to make me out to be a moron - appreciate it :thumb:

Fake - Post-2000s customs used ink serial numbers starting CS.... this is a non-CS stamp.

If it's worth it to you though, buy it - ignore the "good ole' boys" on here who will only buy USA!

As for what real customs sell for in the UK - £1600+

Unfortunately, he's asking for JUST under that, so not really worth it.

I'm pretty sure the guy selling it has no idea it's a fake.
Sounded like a nice, genuine fella who was more than happy to let me try before I buy.

Maybe he's been stung in the past..?
    Shame!

Might know it's fake, might not, might not've at first then discovered it was fake (or didn't get on with it - because it was fake).

Would you mind PM'ing me the sale address? Would be interesting to see the language he's used.

I went through all this buying my custom in the UK but in the end got one for £1600 - the electronics were shagged (rewired with 50s ASAP), the nut was catching the strings and the action was far too low, but all of those things led to a low price which I then got remedied :)

LMAO. Those fugazi headstocks make me want to puke. The dude selling this as a real custom is a crook. BTW there are so many things wrong with that guitar its not even close.

Funny, that exact guitar is the poster child for fake Gibsons. Don't buy anything with a serial number of 02005XXX and I think the other is 01748XXX. I feel sorry for guys with legit July 19th, 2005 Les Pauls.

I'm actually struggling to find one detail about it that is right! Damn, it's even got the "Bcnch Tesred, Buikkt Approvud" sticker on the control cover.

    Besides the SN and Diamond,

    1) Rosewood Fretboard--should be Ebony
    2) no nibs
    3) all the control covers are the wrong color; additionally, the one's on the back that come with the sticker are almost always fakes
    4) the open book headstock looks almost flat across the top--look at real customs (or any real LP for that matter) and you will notice that the curves are more pronounced
    5) no OHSC or case candy--not a deal breaker, but usually people tend to keep these things with the guitar
    6) split diamond is wrong shape/size/position (already mentioned)
    7) SN is one commonly used for fakes; also stamped when it should be inked (already mentioned)
    8) looks like a metric bridge to me, but I can't be certain

If there were more detailed pics and close-ups I'm sure I could name more but at this point anything else is pure speculation. Need any more examples?? :D

EDIT: I forgot another couple obvious one's. Seeing BuzzHaze's 05 Reminded me

    9) doesn't have the "CS" script in the SN; it instead follows the standard (non-custom shop) pattern
    10) missing the Custom Shop logo at the base of the headstock
