I owned a 1977 Cherry Wine Les Paul Custom that I bought new and had for over 30 years. I recently sold it :( and I have since bought a couple LP's.

My latest LP is a very nice (not one nick or ding) 1996 Gibson Les Paul Standard HoneyBurst. It has beautiful wood grain on the back and neck and I love the
HoneyBurst color much better than the Cherry Wine.

    I am curious;
    1) Are the 1996 Standards chambered or weight reduced (I have not weighed this
guitar, but it feels just as heavy as my 1977 Norlin)?
    2) What kind of pickups are on this model?
    3) What neck version is on this model?

I am really happy with this guitar and I got it for a very good price.

Thought that I would ask the experts on this forum for help.

I will try to post better pictures later.

    Thanks,
    Gridlock

I thinks they are swiss cheese not chambered. Man that looks just like my 2003......I would LOVE to get that guitar back. That is one of three I never should have sold. The others were a 2005 Classic and a 2004 Wine Deluxe.....Stunning!

Thanks Mstele. Yes, I have sold many guitars and amps that I wish that I had kept. Always seemed like the right thing to do at the time.

I need to weigh the Standard soon. I believe that my 1977 was right at 10 lbs. This one must be at least 9+ lbs.

Is that your Vette? I used to have a white 1972 454 4-speed Vette that I occasionally Bracket Raced. Lots of fun. Wish that I still had that car also.

I do believe les pauls back in the 90's were weight relieved - with cheese holes. the neck profile? not too sure.. mine's kinda fat. the stock piickups were 490R at the neck and a 498T at the bridge.

    have fun!!

Thanks for the info. They are nearly twins.

Nice nice LP and AFD amp. Your LP really looks good with the pick guard removed.

    Thanks

I wish that was my Vette! That is a 68 L-88 racer. We saw that at Bloomington Gold a couple years ago. We have a red 71 coupe 350. That is one I won't be selling!!! It was always my dream to have a 70-72 red coupe that was frame off a couple of years ago. If I could have gotten a 4 speed and LT-1 that just would have beem icing on the cake! I tell ya Les Pauls and Corvettes just go together.

You inspired me to put my car as my avatar.....

Spec sheet for 90'es Les Pauls, delivered by Gibson Customer Service. They're weight relieved (swiss cheesed).

I understand this is a old post but I love my 96 standard. It's the best playing paul I've played. Granted I haven't played a ton but I looked for about 3 months and went all around Oklahoma and north Texas and ayes quite a few. I'm actually trying to sell my 93 classic plus in amber burst to find another standard.
