Don't be sorry, that is very cool.
Most of the LS120's had veneer tops Scott. Still some of the 120's I've owned over the years rate as the best LP's I've ever played so I don't get too hung up on the veneer/vs solid top thing.
I had I believe it was an 81 LS-120 with a veneer and it had a headstock repair. The pickups were stock, it still had the circuit board in it, etc. That's the best sounding guitar I have ever played as far as what I want a vintage LP to sound like. I sold it to fund a much prettier solid top LS that is one I will never let go of, but I wish I had both looking back.
They made some true heirloom caliber instruments in those days.
I have owned tons with Solid and Veneer and I swear with the right wiring and pickups I could never tell the difference
Nice one Swamp! Congrats....looks awesome! I bet it sounds just as good as it looks. Enjoy!
neither can I
That thing is Beautiful, congrats.
It's mine now. I'm excited lol.
You mean aroused?
You bought it I'm assuming, have you received it yet?
It's on the way. I'll need to rewire it, have Mick make me a set of pickups for it, swap the speed knobs for bells, put an aluminum tailpiece on it, swap the tuners for Klusons, throw some 8's on it, set it up, then I'll give my thoughts.
I've yet to play a late 70's/early 80's LS that I thought was a turd. I'm sure this one will be stellar as well.
you bought swampys one in this thread??
I dont mine vaneer top as long it on top of maple. I dont like maple vaneer on top of hog it there for looks only
Hated to let it go but having medical problems and gotta free up some money. Getting old is not for sissy's Theses guitars from Japan are getting very scarce, just afraid my time is passing me by to own very more nice ones so best I can do is pass them on to members here
How old are you swamp?
60 going on 100 too many years of football and firefighting has taken it's toll
Congrats to Mosster47 I was hoping it might come to my home.
I did! It came in today. The top is definitely solid and is the best flame in person I have ever seen on an LS and I own some monsters too.
It has been played and kicked around but it gives it a unique character. It needs a refret but that's nothing. I will post some pictures after she is back in fighting shape.
Nice guitar Swampy/Mosster!
1983-85 the specs were all over the place.
I've seen a solid flame LS60 from 1983 before so its very possible this one is too. My '83 LS80 is also a solid flametop.
