That is really fantastic looking. Well done.

I will be in the minority here, but I would have preferred to see it restored to it's original '71 Deluxe status, however I totally understand why you went this direction after seeing the top.

Stunning! Great guitar,Man! That's a project on my bucket list....take a broken, refin, routed up beater and make vintage beauty out of 'er! Like my long departed, Grandmother, the English teacher once said," Ya done good, Son! "

I am tempted to do the humbucker and nickel route on this one myself, of course leave the finish...

Damn. That one looks great too. (But I would probably keep the mini-hums, even though they aren't my favorite.)

I wish my '74 had any kind of flame.

    IMG_0198.JPG That's cool man, ^_~
I been workin on my 71 all day.
Got it last month it was a mess.
    I call it dirty grandpa.
Was Filthy, after 2 cans of lighter fluid and a week I finally had to get out the easy off oven cleaner.
That stuff worked on this old nicotine bomb.

    Greg,
I listened to you play 100 early 70's les Paul's in the last 6 months before I finally found this old dirty grandpa.

Thanks, it really helped me find the type of guitar and and sound I was looking for.

lol, I know your playing good one when you get that lil smile on your mug (1968 gold top).

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. I can say that with total honestly, this is the best sounding les paul I have ever played. I've owned dozens of them and played hundreds, from the 50s all the way to today including historic makeover guitars. Maybe it's the real PAFs, maybe it's the wood they used on that specific day, maybe it's the perfect shape of the neck or the ideal weight. I don't know. But it all adds up and works together seamlessly.

Yeah, these early 70s Les Pauls can really often surprise tonewise in a very positive way.

Looks great, but I am most happy to hear that you love how it sounds. That is what causes us members in here to truly fall in love with our instruments. Pretty LPs come and go, but the ones that are at their best when our eyes are closed, lost in playing, are the real keepers.
