I've had a couple of these and never cared for the bling chrome pickup covers.
Now they're in the case pocket with the nylon saddles.
I always feel a bit shallow when I make cosmetic changes to a guitar, but if it makes it call out to be played, I think it's a good thing.
Not sure if I'll notice any differences in tone.
So far, I have not been able to capture the beauty of this thing in a pic.
It has no black in the sunburst, just a beautiful, deep honey brown that fades in...really lovely. 330.jpg

    Huge improvement. Yes, more "Pick-me-up-and-play-me-able".

    Classic.

    Well done, Charlie.

My J45 is that deep brown color and I really love it. Dark brown + cream binding...

To me it always looked a bit like those Japanese cheapies from the 60's where they added some flash to get you to buy it before you figured out it was a POS.

Gorgeous and - yes - I agree with the chrome not being a good look. One of the things that puts me off a Casino. Is it shallow? Sure, but rock-n-roll is an image conscious medium so I refuse to feel bad about it.

And this, coming from a guy who has a guitar painted polygamist gold.
Oh...wait...I just read it again...my bad.

Not sure about the thickness of the covers for either.....but there could be tonal shifts (to try and legitimise the swap too)

Certainly the thickness of the plastic would make the bobbin to screw height differential a bit different. Plus plastic covers are totally tonally transparent, and metal ones have some effect even with the best ones.

I built a similar guitar with seemingly similar burst colours......and have had equal trouble getting the colour right in a pic. DSC00171.JPG

The chrome is meh, but so is the black. Cream plastics and to hell with feeling guilty?

    Beautiful work.
But you put the knobs on the wrong side.
    Har!
I think, on the very bottom, the color in the photo might be right.
I'm betting outdoor sunlight would help capture it.

My knob is on the right side thank you very much!! ;)

Its a tricky one......like yours I'm sure a small amount of light takes it from being warm to washed out.
