"Up for sale is my vintage Gibson Les Paul 58 reissue. I purchased the guitar in 1978 from Strings and Things, one of only twenty-four guitars made by the Gibson factory. Only about half of these guitars had the curly maple flame top like this one. These guitars have been called the Holy Grail by an article in Vintage Guitar Magazine. The picture in the Strings and Things newsletter at the bottom shows this guitar on the far right before it had the sunburst finish. The guitar is a great investment and will increase in value each and every year. So if you're looking for the best and interested in the guitar let me know and I will get back in touch you."

He's been posting that guitar all over the country for ages. I used to live in Memphis in '76 and '77 and that was an incredible store. Picked up a sunburst '74 standard there.

Still trying to wrap my head around the fact that original bursts be worth 6 figures.
Hard to believe that folk with the ability to spend that kind of money on toys would think that an investment.

    I can understand an original '58 being called a " Holy Grail " . but a reissue ?

may be he has his facts mixed up

while he is nuts about the price, those Strings and Things early 50's replicas are pretty 'historical' in the scheme of things.

I forget all the details because I haven't been poking those books in years but there were some early runs done by Gibson for stores of what were essentially the beginning of what would become the CS Reissues. This might be the first run of a 'reissue 50's style' Les Paul,..so that's pretty damn cool.

not $100,000. cool,...but still very cool.

I know I've read about that Strings and Things run of early Reissues in a book somewhere. I want to say they may have been the first to commission a special run of 50's style Les Pauls,...but I'm not 100% sure of that.

I am sure I've read about that particular run of guitars though, so it's pretty neat actually seeing pics of an actual guitar from that run.

    Thanks for posting it.
