Yes I have no patience & maybe this has been brought up before.. but whats the deal with the "wait 10 seconds"

I am not complaining, although it does piss me off sometimes. I guess I am just clicking around too fast.

most of the time when I click my name -----> Statistics -------> Posts it times out for 10 seconds...

I really don't know why I brought this up, I am irritable today I guess

Sometimes the site is going through routine backup or other maintenance tasks.

Sometimes it's on your end, or the fault of your provider, work being done on cabling near you, etc.

    Either way, It will pass.

If you click something twice too quickly, or click on too many links too fast, it will give you the 10 sec rule.

Why? It is put in place because of spammers. It's in the boards's software.

Most places I post have a longer timer, 10 seconds is very fair.

Keeps the queue at a minimum if the software traps commands through a timer.

    redneck analogy:

If there was no timer, a script on ONE persons machine could fire thousands of commands at the server faster than you could blink. The queue would expand like crazy, eating resources, the server would slow down, and if the script kept firing, server would run at the speed of dark... dead to the outside world while trying to serve every req in the queue....

As Harmony also stated, it can help with spamming in that I couldn't script post a thousand spam posts in a matter of seconds.... It would do the same as above though while the server was trying to process all the reqs...

Imagine what is involved when you search... The board and the database are two different animals. Everything is data, NOT web pages. Data is going in and out of the data base every time you click on ANYTHING. The board software is like framework with no data... It has to get it from the database server... Even if on the same box, it is still like a separate entity.

Imagine of everybody online hit search ten times as quick as one could click a mouse, with no timer trap...

Let's everybody at the motel flush all the terlets all at the same time..... :)

I think the technical term you're looking for is 'crapnado'.
