Traded for an SG junior today....please read/please help :)

A guy that Ive known for years came by my shop today and asked me about a truck that he was wanting to buy...My family owns a dealership yada yada yada. Anyways, I was helping him with the truck and I asked him the same question that I ask everyone that I deal with (hey, you know anybody with any old guitars?). He said, "yeah Ive got an old 58 SG." I knew that they didnt make an SG in 58, but I still wanted to see what he was talking about. He went and picked it up from his house and brought it by my house after hours. I noticed that it had a p90 in it....only one. He loved my 87 fender USA stratocaster with the kahler system. I traded him straight up. I honestly dont know how I did. The guitar needs to be cleaned up, it needs a fret leveling job, some filing, and it doesnt have a case......but she sounds amazing and is all original with no breaks. I figure my strat was worth about $500-$600.

I have attached a few pictures. The headstock isnt nearly as faded as it looks. The guitar is actually pretty nice. The neck shows a brown streak in the pic, but that doesnt show up when looking at it....I dont really know why its there in the picture....maybe something wrong with my flash.

So, did I make a decent trade? Did I do ok? I dont really know what these are worth, but it is an old Gibson, so its gotta be worth something right? The vintage sound is mind blowing. My serial number is 2209XX....am I right in saying that its a 64? Thanks so much in advance. I really appreciate any help I can get

It entirely comes down to which guitar you like best. If you prefer this to you old one, then good, you got a great deal. If not, then as they say - fail.

You got a super cool guitar with tons of character in return. In my books, you did better than okay

That thing must sound incredible! Old wood, P90....

Re: Traded for an SG junior today....please read/please help :)

I guess I did pretty good then. I figure its probably worth $2,250ish something like that. I looked at the ones on ebay and they seem to be doing anywhere from $2500-$2700. Mine needs a little lovin, but not much, so Id say $2250ish. I think I did well and Im ready to play this thing with new strings on it. I am not attached to it right now, so its fair game to anyone if you are interested in it. I have a les paul project that Im working on and this would really help fund some of it.

Yep. Great trade on your part.

Think you could have sold that Strat for that much?

I wish I was in a position to take it off your hands after fighting everyone else for it.

p90s are BEAST. Enjoy your guitar!

I saw one in decent condition at the Summer Philly Guitar Show for $1800.

You made a great deal!

Give him a little present to even up the deal a bit. You got 4 times the value that he got.

That thing is AMAZING. I'd get it refinished in white. (White SG Junior = Drool)

And ruin it's value?

Refin new guitars, not real guitars.

I'm obsessed with white SG Juniors. If It was mine, I'd absolutely do it. Resell value wouldn't matter to me. (Because I'd keep it)
