Odd ball sg special

Hi everyone,
Long time lurker, first time poster. So I purchased this old sg special a couple of months ago and I've been doing as much digging as I can on the guitar to find out what is up with it: I need a little help. The guy I bought it off of didn't know much about it but this is what I've gathered about it:
The serial number is six digits: 92xxxx with the stamp "made in USA" on the back- so it must be in the range of 70-72 according to the blue book. The pickups had obviously been replaced, as the stock p90s were gone and instead open coil HBs were put in. I took it apart and looked at the humbuckers- they are plastic shrink wrapped not wire braided with the gibson logo on the bottom- anyone know what these might be? I can't even find when gibson switched to the plastic wire wrap on some HB's.

Taking it apart, I also noticed that the finish was untouched in the pickup cavity- so my guess is that the guitar was refinished at some point- whoever did it did a damn good job though (looks like real nitro). Another indication of this is that the tuners are non-originals and it looks like the holes for the original strip tuners were filled and refinished.

Another thing that threw me off was the pots- they have the code: xs-440-71079 on them, which according to the vintage guitar guy guide, Gibson used on a bunch of LP anniversary models etc.

Anyway- given the photos and the information above, can anyone help me figure out what year exactly this guitar is from, and perhaps what the pickups are (Im still trying to track down some original p90's to put them back in).

Thanks for the help! (sorry for the poor quality photos)

Re: Odd ball sg special

Also, any ideas what you guys would ask for if you were selling this guitar? I'm hoping to get some cash to buy a LP and I'm thinking about selling this but given everything that has been done to it I'm not sure of a fair asking price.

Re: Odd ball sg special

Those pickups were made from early 1990 on. Measure the DCR with a multimeter to figure out what they are exactly most likely a
490R in the neck and maybe 490T in the bridge. Check out gibson.com pickup site to compare the DCR readings.
Hope that helps
