My 67 SG Special: Think I'm going to sell it
As the title suggests, I think I'm going to sell this one. Why? Well... I just pulled the trigger on another guitar and it has me thinking I should let this one go.
I'm going wait on posting an official sale thread in the classifieds section until I recieve the new guitar and verify its in one piece but its a short trip its taking so it should be fine (fingers crossed). I'm posting here because I wanted to give the SG lovers a head start on it if anyone is interested. The official for sale thread will go up Wednesday or Thursday. Make no mistake, this is a player thanks to a previouse owner who shot the collector value to sh*t years ago. It will be priced to reflect that though at roughly $1,900 OBO(clean they for $3000 - $3500). Now to the details.... The Good: The guitar has no breaks, no cracks and no repairs. The neck joint is solid and has never been reset. The Pickups and electronics are all original with the exception of one tone cap that was replaced with a vintage period correct part of the same value made by the same manufacturer. Solder joints are all untouched with the exception of that same cap. The Bad: A previouse owner (and jack ass) "refinished" the guitar in varnish. He also replaced the tuners with Schallers and pulled the maestro trem off. The original tuners and trem are long gone as is the original case. The bridge pickup cover is also a replacement. Upgrades: The guitar was just refreted with Stew Mac 0147 wire in January 2011, recieved a new bone nut and was pleked. The work was done by Gary Brawer in San Francisco (Joe Satriani sends ALL his guitars to Gary to set up and for any major work). Gary straightened the neck prior to doing the frets and also put Tone Pro's locking studs and a correctly compenated rap around on and the original studs and bridge will be included. Since its a player now anyways, the Schaller tuners are actually a good thing and personally I prefer it without the trem. Those trems are great in conjunction with an ABR bridge but horrible with a wrap around. This guitar plays like a dream. Best playing guitar I have at the moment thanks to Brawer. If your a Pete Townsend fan this is the guitar for you, screw the over priced signature guitars they came out with, this is the real deal and set up exactly like Pete's (well his had Grovers but close enough lol). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: My 67 SG Special: Think I'm going to sell it
Perfect example of a played and loved guitar. Thanks for allowing someone else to enjoy her. I've tried to like SG's but I can't play them comfortably, or else I would buy this one. This is the SG I play when I'm dreaming.

How does it sound? As good as it plays? It appears the 'varnish refin' has been removed. Any lasting effects? I would only try to talk you out of selling it because I could not afford it right now.

It sounds great. Resonates like crazy and the vintage P-90's just can't be beat. This is a chance for someone to get into some old wood at a great price and I want it to go to a good home and someone that appreciates vintage SG's, thats why I'm posting here first. The other nice thing is this one you can play t he crap out of without worrying about something happening to it. No the varnish is still on it. I was going to refinish it but just didn't get around to it yet. Plus I couldn't make up my mind what color to do it in. Now that will be up to a new owner.
