Gibson SG II 1972 Question
Hello Everybody, forum noob here....
Wondering if anybody has ever seen a '72 SG II that had full size humbuckers instead of the usual minis? There was an SG up on Ebay that said it was an extremely rare SG II that had the full size HB's factory installed. Is this right or did somebody just swap them out at some point? It has a Les Paul type pickguard that seems to fit the PU's correctly..... Thanks in advance for any help

Re: Gibson SG II 1972 Question
unfortunately, i believe that every single SG-II left the factory with mini hums...that was the draw of the model design.
An SG of that style and era with full sized hums could be a modified SG Deluxe. While working on mine, my research showed that most owners tossed the factory Gibson brand Bigsby and opted for a drilled stop-tailpiece. I myself am no expert either, but some pics could help if you can get some!

Re: Gibson SG II 1972 Question
well judging by that picture, the bridge has already been replaced with a 'badass' style bridge.
and if you compare that to a pic of a stock SG II, you can see the the pickup openings in the pickguard allow a bit more room than the mini hums can fill up, so a pickup swap woudlve been pretty simple and clean either way, the guitar you're looking at looks like its in great condition. Most Norlins dont have any headroom to grow in value, so it shouldnt matter if the pickups were factory installed or not.
