Re: Look at what I found today, is it the real deal?
Beautiful find no matter what price you paid, loved following this thread.
Regarding the worn area between the pickup selector and fretboard, comparing the before and after pictures maybe the guitar was used by a lefty for slide. I've read about slide players that prefer the wood "acoustic" bridge (or something like it) similar to the bridge that was on this when you found it. |

There's a '55 GT on ebay right now with similar wear, at least in the same place, if not to the same depth, item number 150494932882...

Re: Look at what I found today, is it the real deal?
congratulations!
there are probably a lot of vinage guitars in dead 'uncle Ted's' basement....with the surviving family members unaware of the value of such vintage guitars...rare to find one in a pawn shop, they are usually on the ball as to vintage values...usually... |

That goldtop looks to have very similar wear. I wonder how much an affect it has on value??

Re: Look at what I found today, is it the real deal?
Great story and a great find! Only downer - given the pawn shop were prepared to let it go for $1200 - is that some poor b*stard probably hocked their pride and joy to cover bills and now will never get a chance to buy it back
At least it's gone to someone who is clearly taking care of it and will be playing it - rather than a greedy 'replace the missing bits and sell it for a profit' type.
