Re: The greatest job in the world

I tell ya, some collectors probably sweating cold now, looking at those guitars and the guy playing them instead of just looking at them and talking about wood grain patterns! What? no gloves?

So cool, that's what guitars are for!

Re: The greatest job in the world

I've been watching these fretted americana vids on you tube for a while now. Phil is great!!! Awsome chops and seems like a really top bloke. Every guitar is awsome and he gets the very best out of em. Check out the fretted americana you tube channel if you're after some good entertainment.

Watching the vids makes me wish I had unlimited funds though, there sheer level of guitar awsomeness is out of sight!!!!

Re: The greatest job in the world

I like someone who dosen't baby old guitars. I mean those guitars were ment to be played like hes playing him. If I were a 59' burst I would be happy.

HAha when he played the '55 Goldtop and broke into Let me Put my Love Into You. I was on the floor laughing. him trying to imitate Brian Johnson.

Trust me, I bet Phil thinks the same way as us. How Phil records each guitar through the two amps really gives you an Idea of their nuances. Each guitar has a voice of it's own. If you look up some vids where he went back to Canada to play in a club with his high school rock band, you can see him at his best. They hadn't played together in over 15-20 years

Found one Funk 49, look up the Deep Purple song he does.

You're crazy. Hey you asked me to, but I think it was the different amp. It did sound better IMO.

It's good to be Phil!

I don't see how he is annoying. The guy has lots of energy, he loves guitars, loves music, you can see his enthusiasm, and has great chops. He goes for it always. Whats not to like?

These guys thought he was good enough
(Dec.'99). Since his reputation as being a raw, inventive and energetic guitarist got around, Phil X has recorded with Daughtry, Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Rob Zombie, Gavin Degraw, Alice Cooper, Andrew W.K. and many more

Re: The greatest job in the world

The only name I really recognise in the list is Alice Cooper, although I think I have half an idea who Avril Lavigne is...

but I really like what Phil X does. And yes, he's maybe not as funny as he thinks he is, but I don't get the impression he takes himself too seriously. First time I got to play a vintage Les Paul (a '57 GT) Led Zep songs got played a lot - there is a reason...

Phil X reminds me why I play the guitar and I've got to say I like the irreverent approach to it.

I hadn't heard of Philx until I saw one of his videos on this forum. I then went to Youtube and enjoyed several more. Great player. I find Phil likable and entertaining. He would be welcome to sit in with me anytime.

Re: The greatest job in the world

Phil X is a killer guitar player.. he has 100% control over the guitar! Just watching him playing (I watch at least 2 clips a day!) any of the guitars in his demos has helped me with my playing.

Phil X is great... can play really good, doesn't act all pussy with the guitars( he plays them with abandon) and he is so into what he is doing i just can't help but get into it too.
