"This OLD Les Paul"
This is a 52 that I call the Carcass. It was on Ebay a year ago and I just connected with the guitar. The person that originally won the Auction backed out when they found out how hard it was to get it from Cananda. So it was a long drawn out process to aquire the guitar. It had a second party doing the transaction. Well after several month's we finally agreed on a price, and after a pain in the ass Customs it arrived in about two weeks.
Well I was asked to start a thread on the restoration of the "Carcass" 52 Project. So here is the first initial pics. Sorry can't get them up. ![]() ![]()

Re: "This OLD Les Paul"
This is the guitar after I did a simple parts assembly and hot wire just to see how it sounded. I could not believe this thing sounded so good even with the primitive setup. I played the guitar on a 56 Fender Harvard amp and WOW.

Re: "This OLD Les Paul"
Although I am still extremely pissed at the seller about some issues not disclosed, I played this guitar at practice for a full 3 1/2 hours and it didn't go out of tune once. My band mates laughed when I pulled it out, but also knew I wouldn't bring a guitar that was a tone turd. I just can't believe this guitar sound that good even with this primative set up. BCRGreg hooked me up with a Pigtal wrap and some real 50's studs and stud bushings, so this week I am going to address the wood working. Also Kthesheep hooked me up with a great P90 that will go in the neck. Buzz will supply the two bad inlays I need to replace as well as side dots. I am going to take my time and not make quick decisions. I may just get a good nut, refret and call it a Day.

Re: "This OLD Les Paul"
I have gone through several emotions on what style guitar I want to make her. PAF reset the neck, just put a shaved ABR-1, wraptail.
Thank you Nick ie. NMGuitars for the binding site hookup. The neck needs new binding.

Re: "This OLD Les Paul"
Larry and I think about three different guys at different times did this crap to the guitar. That cutout on the side of the control cavity was done for an varitone. They used one of those hole saw with a bit to cut that out.
Gotta love this shot. With that being bondo and epoxy, it will get cut out. Larry has digital machines that are so exact that it gets to 1/10 of a hair on our head. Granted it's not easy to match, and putting it in and looking good are difficult. We will have to add a tad of Mahogony and redo the wire channel in that mahogony. It will be a Mahogony/Maple sandwhich

Re: "This OLD Les Paul"
I'd bet you were leaving the top amber, like a totally faded SB...that's too pretty to cover with paint!
The flames look a lot like the ones on my '04 R9... ![]() BB

Re: "This OLD Les Paul"
Dark back GT or Washed out burst is my vote.
Chances are it is already something undisclosed to all of us until you are ready anyway. ![]()
