Re: Some Junior pics, just because.

I don't know if this qualifies or not - if not, please excuse me.

This (along with a Blues Deluxe reissue) is for my Grand Son IF he keeps his school marks up and his music up too.

Kinda like a carrot on a stick thing.

As far as I know, there will be a couple similar guitars available very, very soon.

Contact Roman about them (e mail me if you need contact info).

Re: Some Junior pics, just because.

Alright ladies and gents. I have been posting on here for a bit, but now it is time to stop selling the sizzle and pony up some steak. Pics! I plan on starting a multi "junior" (SG jr, Coronet, Melody Maker, Olympic, etc..) pic post soon. Rock on.

Really?! How not? I find good P-90s to be what only the best humbucker PAF replicas try to be. IMO, the mark of a successful PAF replica is that it sounds like a P-90, but tolerates refrigerators.

+1, and very eloquently put. Seth Lover has actually said he tried to "voice" the original humbuckers to sound like a P90, and I reckon he made a pretty good job of it. But a good P90 has a bit of edge that humbuckers never quite replicate IMO...

This is one of those times when I begin to regret not bookmarking an article I read on the internet including a transcript of Seth Lover being interviewed a long time ago.

He quite literally says the PAF was the result of Gibson asking him to make a P90 that didn't hum. The same way they wanted him to make a De Armond character pickup with the Alnico V for Customs because Les Paul kept dropping their pickup in his guitars.

The P90 is up there with the greatest pickups ever made. In fact I would go as far as saying that they are the best pickups you can get in a Les Paul if you can put up with the noise. I think they are very underrated when you consider how they shaped the tone of modern pop/rock music. Humbuckers take all the glory because of The Beano album and a host of other high profile outings, but really do they sound better then p90s? Not really in my experience. I think if you listen to a lot of the most important early blues and rock records you will realise how many are P90s. I'm pretty sure most of the early Chuck berry and Link Wray stuff was done on Gibsons with P90, well actually know that they were for the most part. Think about music without Maybellene or Rumble, well I can't really.

I personally was obessed by that late 50s classic Link Wray sound. He was always pictured with oddball guitars like Danelectros, Supros, Firebirds etc. I couldn't understand how I couldn't get his sounds from those models, but then someone told me he was using an old Goldtop with P90s through a Premier 71 amp. As soon as I rolled down the tone knob on a 50s Les paul with P90s and played it through a cranked 50s amp I instantly got that defining proto-heavy rock sound. There is something about the P90 combining power, sensitivity and fullness that makes them perfect for blues and rock.
