Vintage Gibson Owners, post your inventory here

Hey guys,

Thought I'd start a thread for owners of vintage Gibsons.

I know there is some debate over what is vintage and what isn't and I appreciate the debate. Personally I consider pre-1970 as vintage for Gibson.

So I'll start off with my only two vintage Gibsons:

1) My 1959 Les Paul Junior. All original 100%, even the alligator chipboard case.

UV lighting shows vintage glow of finish and knobs:

2) My 1969 SG Standard, paid a whopping $60 cash for it back in the early 80s, from a real prick no less. It was my pleasure to take it off his stupid ass:

If we're counting '69 - here's my Deluxe. I consider it "1/2 vintage" - as it still has the one piece body, but does have one of the first 3 piece necks as well. 70's refin. P90's added at some point.

Re: Vintage Gibson Owners, post your inventory here

Thanks guy's, it's a refin which suits me just fine... I paid much less than an original finish guitar, and I wanted one that I could take out and play.

It sounds unbelieveably sweet, best guitar I've ever played... from the thickest Les Paul tones, to honkin' Tele tone (in the middle position), and even into twangy Strat territory when rolling off the volume, it's an extremely versatile guitar.

If you're looking for bursts, pretty much no luck here.

Great looking guitars.

OK, I KNOW there are many more vintage owners, come on guys. Perfect photo op here to post those treasures.

Anyone want to add there pics or audio/video clips of their vintage Gibsons please do so, it doesn't have to be Les Pauls, SGs, ES series, basses, BTW, loved those old 60s EBO basses! You gotta post a pic of that EBO!

Re: Vintage Gibson Owners, post your inventory here

Hey don't know how I missed this thread?

Here's my 1969 LPC BB... "Queenie"

The original case was trashed, I put it in this case when I modded her out back in 1991-92.

My newest acquisition 1959 LP Jr. d/c... yet unnamed

Hey Tex I noticed mine has the red finish as well but may be a bit more faded than yours... I also noticed yours has a black pickguard while I have the tortoise. I wonder if the PG's were an option at the time or if it is actually a different color finish altogether?

Re: Vintage Gibson Owners, post your inventory here

Hemply, not sure about the pickguards on the Jrs. Some were black like mine, some were tortoise like yours, I think most were tortoise actually, at least from the number I've seen.

I don't think the factory had certain Jrs with X finish and X pickguard. I think they were all cherry and they probably had a supply of black pickguards arrive and they used them. Similar to the black and white bobbins on the old PAFs I suppose, they just used whatever they had.

WOW! You have quite the herd there don't you???
I'd like to add that those are some of the cleanest vintage guitars I've seen, they all look MINT. Well done and congrats on a stellar vintage collection.
I would love to have a vintage 175.

I got lucky both times. The Special was bought from a kid who got it the previous day from the original owner, and he didn't like the hum when plugged into his Marshall. $1500CND.
The 345 was acquired from a guy who had to pay his dentist. $750CND. It has the 1 9/16" neck, and if you don't watch it the low E falls off , but it's my best sounding guitar live, it'll cut through anything. Needless to say I've had both for a long time.

Re: Vintage Gibson Owners, post your inventory here

Thanks Texas and Decoy... they are each outstanding guitars, and each has a very different playing experience. The 1928 and 1940 have thee best acoustic tone - while the 1955 and 1963 are just superb sounding 'Wes' guitars.

Condition wise - some are better than others. The 1940 blonde has possibly been refinished - and the '63 CES has a couple of hairline cracks (along the spruce grain) and some modest player wear - but this 'vibe' adds to the testament of how playable the guitar is.

That was my point. It amazes me; someone posts a thread, "Show me all your valuable stuff!", and BAM!, people start showing all their valuable stuff!
It seems to me that there is a lot of this going on, and I, for one, won't do it. Now, I am not secretive about my life, and I am sure there are some out there who can find a lot about any of us by compiling little bits and pieces, but I'm not going to make it easy by handing it all to them in a nice neat list!
